Samples: Submit three (3) samples each of the roof field membrane, the roof flashing
membrane, the insulation board and fasteners for concrete and metal decks, the
separation sheet, the filter cloth, the ballast, the termination bar and fasteners, the
sealant, the metal counterflashing and fasteners. The ballast samples shall weight .5
kg each, in bags. The field membrane samples shall each consist of a T-lap joint; hear
welded, 450 mm square.
PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Deliver materials to the site in the original unopened containers labeled with the
manufacturer's name, brand name and installation instructions. Store all materials
according to manufacturer's written instructions.
B. Prolonged exposure of curable materials (i.e., secured flashing, adhesives, sealant and
pourable sealer) to temperatures greater than 27oC (80oC) will reduce the shelf life of
those materials. When liquid adhesives and sealants are exposed to lower
temperatures, restore to a minimum of 15oC (60oF) before use.
C. Insulation and underlayment shall be stored so it is kept dry and is protected from the
elements. Store insulation on a pallet and completely cover with a breathable material
such as a tarpaulin or canvas. If the insulation is lightweight it shall be weighted to
prevent wind damage.
D. Do not store adhesive containers with opened lids due to the loss of solvent, which
will occur from evaporation.

JOB CONDITIONS
A. General
1.
2.
B. The exposed roofing membrane shall be protected and areas of concentrated traffic
should be confined to preserve the uniform clean surface of the membrane and
prevent discoloration during installation. If access is required to finished roofs other
than along established walkways; the roofing contractor shall provide and place
25mm thick by 550mm wide boards to protect the finished roof.

GENERAL
07567 - 4
The products used in the roofing system shall be to the maximum extent possible,
from in-Kingdom manufacturers. All products of the same generic type shall be from
the same manufacturer.
2.02
MEMBRANE
A. PVC - Plasticized polyvinyl chloride 1.5 mm thick, 1.35 meters wide, reinforced with
glass fiber matrix, ultra-violet stabilized.
B. Contractor to furnish information on physical properties of the selected membrane.
2.03
RELATED MATERIALS
F.
Accessories - Coated metal pipe boots, vents, roof jacks and other roof accessories
shall be coated by membrane manufacturer for heat welded membrane systems.
G. Protection Laver (Filter Cloth) - Shall be non-woven polyester fabric weighing 260
gm/m2.
H. Ballast - Shall be washed crushed stone aggregate, passing a 20mm screen. No fines
will be allowed.
I.
use in metal decks, fasteners shall be corrosion-resistant coated, self drilling pan head
steel deck screws and manufacturer's approved disks. Screws for metal decks shall be
long enough to project 25 mm below the lowest part of the metal deck.
J.
Miscellaneous - Bonding adhesive, splice cleaner, lap sealant, metal flashings and
securement strips and their fasteners are required for use with roofing membrane.
Breather vents, primers, vapor barrier, edgings, expansion joint fillers may also be
required.
Termination Bar - Shall be aluminum 3 mm thick, 30mm wide, with 5mm wide band
along each edge at 45o brakes.
PART 3

EXECUTION
GENERAL
A. Begin the application at the highest roof level and work to the lowest. Begin
installation at the lowest edge of each section of roof level, and proceed "up hill",

with lap joints parallel to long dimension of roof, and joints lapped going with the
flow of water.
B. Follow criteria outlined in the roofing membrane manufacturer's technical manual to
prepare the roof deck and the existing substrate prior to application of the new
roofing system.
C. Fastening and adhesion of roofing membrane insulation and base sheets shall be in
accordance with roofing system manufacturer's details. In the event that fasteners are
required by the roofing or insulation manufacturer, fastener types, spacing and pattern
shall be specified by the manufacturer of the roofing system.
3.02
A. Defects and/or deflection in the roof deck must be reported and documented by the
roofing applicator to the specifier, general contractor and also the Royal Commission
for assessment. The roofing applicator shall no: proceed with the installation unless
the defects are corrected.
B. Commencement of work on the deck signifies the roof contractor's acceptance of the
deck and its suitability for receiving the roof system.
C. Fastener Pullout: Minimum pullout value shall be 45 kg. Per fastener.
3.03
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Pullout tests shall be conducted by the applicator and submitted to the roof system
manufacturer to determine the acceptable installation fastening density rate.
3.04
ROOF INSTALLATION
Prior to the use of any products, refer to the safety data in technical manual for
applicable cautions and warnings.
A. Insulation Attachment
Insulation shall be mechanically fastened to the roof deck with 1 insulation fastener
and plate per 0.4 square meters of insulation unless otherwise required in writing by
the insulation or membrane manufacturer.
B. Membrane Installation

a.
Install insulation boards in minimum of two layers, offsetting side and end
joints 200mm minimum. Cut or score and break boards at valleys and ridges,
so that insulation lays flat on the roof deck. Use approved fasteners, spacing
and pattern. Fit insulation tightly around penetrations. Fill voids larger than
" with insulation. Cover insulation with polyethylene separation layer before
installing roof membrane.
b.
c.
Complete sealing of all splices by the end of each workday. Care should be
