Poetry Literary Terms

Directions: Copy down the terms in your notebook with two or three lines of blank space for the
definition. Then look up the definition in the textbook and write it down. For terms with Ex. next
to it, leave space to write a given example as well.
Types of poems:
1. free verse
2. haiku
3. lyric poem
4. narrative poem
Other terms:
5. iambic pentameter- a line of verse with five metrical feet, each consisting of one

6. enjambment- when a line of poetry continues onto the next line without any end
punctuation. Ex.
