1. SCOPE
The auditions will be held in order to fill the positon for Double Bass (Soloist A), at the
Gulbenkian Orchestra.
The auditions for the Gulbenkian Orchestra have a prospective/indicative nature and Calouste
Gulbenkian Foundation reserves itself the right not to engage any of the candidates present in
the audition, regardless of their classification. If one of the candidates wins the audition, and if it
is the expressed will of the jury, it will be proposed a contract with the duration of one year or
one season. After this period a reevaluation will be made by the jury in order to decide a
possible transition to a permanent contract.
2. APPLICATIONS

The closing date for applications is Monday 27th June 2016, by 24h00.

3. PRE-SELECTION
The applications will go through a pre-selection by the evaluation of the curriculum. The
Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation reserves itself the right of not accepting any candidate whose
academic profile and professional experience is understood as inadequate or insufficient.
3.1 PRE-AUDITION
The candidate might be requested to attend to a pre-audition during the 5th July 2016, at the
Main building of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Lisbon, Portugal (Avenida de Berna,
45A, 1067-001 Lisbon).
3.1.1 Schedule
The schedule for the pre-audition day will be the following:

8:00 Presentation and check-in opening
9:30 Check-in closure and lotto drawing (to determine audition order)
3.1.4 Jury
The jury for the pre-audition will be composed by Gulbenkian Orchestra members.
4. AUDITIONS
The auditions will take place in the Main Rehearsal Room of the Calouste Gulbenkian
Foundation building, in Lisbon, Portugal (Avenida de Berna, 45A, 1067-001 Lisboa), the 6th
July 2016.
4.1 - SCHEDULE
The schedule for the main auditions day will be the following:
9:30 Check-in closure and lotto drawing (to determine audition order)
4.3 JURY
The jury for the auditions will have members from the Foundations Music Department, an
invited conductor and Gulbenkian Orchestras section leaders and soloists.
The 1st and 2nd round will be behind a screen. During this round the candidates must remain
unidentified. The 3rd round will be without screen.
1st round
Classical concerto | Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf or Johan Baptist Vanhal (of the
candidates choice): 1st movement with cadenza.
Orchestral excerpts (from the excerpts and solos list) of the jurys choice.
2nd round
Orchestral excerpts (from the excerpts and solos list) of the jurys choice.
3rd round
Romantic or 20th Century Concerto | Giovanni Bottesini or Serge Koussevitsky (of the
candidates choice): 1st movement.
Orchestral excerpts (from the excerpts and solos list) of the jurys choice.
To get the orchestral excerpts and solos you can check the Gulbenkian Orchestra space at the
website www.muv.ac. Other scores besides the excerpts wont be available.
The double bass must be tuned with standard orchestral tuning (g d a e).
5. COSTS
The Gulbenkian Orchestra wont support any costs regarding accommodation or traveling for
the auditions.
