EVALUATION SELF AND PEER
INTRODUCTION:
Evaluation is such an essential part of teaching and learning. Evaluation is an
amazing fact that our schools and colleges know little of the result of their work
while learning is the objective of teaching while the teacher is an instrument for
its facilitation.
DEFINITION:
According to Conbatch etal 1980 Evaluation is a systematic examination
of educational & social programs.
Evaluation is the process of determining the extent to which the aims &
objective are being attained.
Evaluation is the term used to describe the process of finding out whether
that was expected, desired or aimed at has been achieved
PURPOSE:
To appraise the status or changes in students behavior.
To make provision for guiding the growth of the individual student.
To diagnosis the individual student educational weakness and strength.
To assess the students progress from time to time and discloses
students needs and possibilities.
To provide basis for the modification of the curriculum and courses.
To locate areas where remedial measure is needed.
Motivate students towards better attainment and growth.
Appraise the teacher and supervisors competences.
Bring out the inherent capabilities of a student such as attitudes.

TYPES OF EVALUATION:
The teacher who wishes to learn more about her overall effectiveness as a
teacher has access to several sources of information. The sources of evaluation
are followings.
Advantages:
Self evaluation is the first essential step in any evaluation process.
It is an expected part of student professional performance and can
provide information useful for planning and student improvement.
It helps teacher also to write evaluating various aspects of the
performance indicating their strength and weakness.

It helps the teacher to get an opportunity to think, reflect and write
down the lack points.
It helps to the students to get a better idea of the goals that they are
trying to reach.
Students can take responsibility for their own learning.
Students get a chance to predict their main targets for the coming
year and think about their career advancement.
