Kan Jam Lesson Plan

Location: North Field


Equipment: Frisbees, Hula Hoops, Kan Jam cans
Objective:
Learn how to properly throw a Frisbee (backhand technique)
Learn the rules and participate in the game of kan jam
!
1.) WU
Students will participate in a fitness circuit to elevate their heart rates and build
strength and endurance
Set up a large square with cones, students will perform several exercises (jogging,
lunges, bear crawl, shuffles)
!
2.) Frisbee throwing mechanics
Introduce how to properly before a backhand throw of the frisbee
o Face target
o Proper grip on the Frisbee (thumb on ridges, not all fingers gripping edge
of Frisbee underneath)
o Keep arm at 90 degrees, bring in towards body, and extend elbow towards
target and flick your wrist
o Rotate shoulders and pull hips through pointing stomach at the target
!
3.) Have students partner up and toss Frisbee back and forth starting close and moving
further as they feel comfortable (should start without shoulder rotation and then add it in
as they start getting further).

4.) Bring class back together and introduce Kan Jam
Explain the goal of the game
o Object of game is to throw the Frisbee in the hula hoop or Kan with or
without partners assistance
o Rules are as follows: 1pt for hitting Frisbee or kan with partners help, 2pt
hitting Frisbee or kan without partners assistance, 3pt land inside Frisbee
with partners assistance, 4pt land inside Frisbee without assistance
o Winner must score exactly 21 points. If you go over, subtract the last
points from score
o If it lands inside small opening in Kan, game is over
!
5.) In groups of 4, play 2 on 2 game of Kan Jam
!
