Torsional Data - Supporting Documents

The document discusses torsional supporting documents for compressor performance runs. The supporting documents consist of a shaft drawing and station drawing. The shaft drawing shows dimensions of the drive-end crankshaft needed for coupling selection. The station drawing identifies cylinder throw positions, phase angles, and where inertia and stiffness values are applied along the crankshaft. Both drawings provide essential information for torsional analysis of the selected compressor.

Torsional Data - Supporting Documents

Torsional supporting documents consist of two additional pages programmed to be printed for the
particular compressor selected for the performance run. The first page is the Shaft Drawing, showing
the appropriate dimensions of the drive-end of the compressor crankshaft necessary for coupling
selection and fit-up. The coupling must be chosen first to enable calculation of the inertia and stiffness
of the first (coupling hub) station of the compressor crankshaft. The second page is the Station
Drawing, identifying the cylinder throw positions, cylinder phase angles, and station layout for the
particular compressor selected for the performance run.

The Shaft Drawing below identifies the essential dimensions of the drive end of the compressor
crankshaft necessary for coupling selection and fit-up. Using these dimensions along with the mean
torque and maximum vibratory torque expected, the amount of interference fit necessary for the
coupling hub can be computed.

The Station Drawing identifies three additional physical characteristics of the compressor necessary in
performing a torsional analysis. The top figure shows the throw numbering convention used by Ariel,
with throw #1 being closest to the driver and the highest throw being closest to the auxiliary end. A
simple cylinder phase diagram for the compressor is also shown, always referenced from the drive end
of the crankshaft and rotated clockwise (conventional) or counter-clockwise (non-conventional). Lastly,
a station diagram is shown for the crankshaft, identifying where the individual inertia and stiffness
figures are applied for each station along the shaft.
