Professional Development Lesson Plan

Instructional Design: ADDIE model

Analysis- A needs assessment was performed via e-mail with the media specialist to
determine the area in which professional development was needed.
Design- In the design phase, the goal of the professional development was created: Teachers
will learn to assist students in finding appropriate eBooks via Destiny, PebbleGo, and
TumbleBooks.
Development- A plan was developed in this phase to address the goal. It was decided that
stating a purpose for eBooks and going through the useful aspects of each website would be
most useful for teachers.
Implementation- The professional development will be given during the week of October 9-13.
It will be offered in person to teachers who after interested afterschool in addition to an online
module that will be available to teachers via e-mail.
Evaluation- At the end of the professional development, teachers will be given an opportunity
to evaluate the training via online survey. Also, the librarian will check in with teachers
periodically to see if the use of the eBook programs has increased.

Evaluation:
After giving my professional development and analyzing the survey data, I determined that the
content, length, and presentation method were items that I would keep the same in future trainings.
All survey respondents replied that the presentation was very clear, with about the right amount of
information, and that they would now use e-books after this training. In addition to the survey data, I
was also able to assess that the participants were engaged by their questions and willingness to try
the e-book programs with their students. A particular 5th grade teacher was excited due to the fact
that her students could now read books on the Harlem Renaissance, a topic they were researching.
Because there were not many books on the subject available for checkout from the library, the
students would be able to access their needed resources through e-books.
What I would change before presenting again would be the amount of participants and the
technology setup. A week before the training, an e-mail was sent out advertising the training and on
the day of the training, it was featured on the afternoon announcements. Teachers who attended
were even given the incentive of a jeans day pass. Since it was an afternoon meeting that was not
required, most teachers did not attend. To prevent this from reoccurring, it may be more effective to
have this training during grade level planning periods. This would ensure that all teachers received
the training, and would thus increase the amount of feedback on the survey. In addition, I feel that this
training would be better presented in a computer lab so that teachers could work through accessing
the websites and resources.
