ABSTRACT
This paper studies Geof frey Bawa's work s from a
perspective of design, with a particular emphasis on roof
amongst many architectural elements. It intends to reveal
a rational undercurrent from restrictions to connections in
architecture by examining the variation and development
of roofs in Bawa's works.

and indeed the future, by learning from the

[ ] Song Yilin This paper conceptualizes the design philosophy of
"design as research" as the process to acquire new
knowledge from environment-behavior research. It
1 ( 150006) , reviews the combination of research and design in
2 different developing phases by studying several hallmark
( 150006) events of the development of architectural design in
3 3
the United States. Based on a model of knowledge of
architectural design on three levels, it elaborates on the
substantial content of design as research, intended to
2016/10/13
provide reference for the scientific and research-based
transformation of contemporary architectural design in
(20132302120050) China.

[ ] Guo Liaohui This paper aims to reveal the design process of the
extension of Banca della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano through
an analysis of a succession of design sketches made by
1 the architect Giancarlo Durisch. It provides an example
2 of how the postwar modernist movement revised the
dogmatic concept of "function" in the face of the historical
environment to keep a balance between conservation

and innovation.

[ ] Mu Jingyi ABSTRACT
[ ] Kang Jian This paper focuses on the comparative study on supply
policy, architectural space model and function of facilities
for the aged between China and the UK. It identifies the
methodological and conceptual differences between
( 150006) the two countries, caused by different values, lifestyles
and ageing processes. It concludes with suggestions
of diversification and rationalization of various types of
2016/11/04
facilities for the aged, an increase of small-scaled facilities,
deinstitutionalization of the spatial pattern, etc.

1 ABSTRACT
[ ] Liu Bin
1
[ ] Niu Runping 5 Based on the long-term field measurement of the use of air
2
[ ] Wei Shen conditioners in a residential area of five households in Beijing,
this paper analyzes the bulk of data and discusses indoor and
outdoor temperature, indoor humidity, personal preferences,
1 retention time of Indoor refrigeration capacity amongst other
( 100044) effects resulting from use of air conditioners. It identifies two
2 modes in extremities: the most energy saving one and the most
energy consuming one. By comparing with field measurement
of energy consumption, it contends that the actual energy
2016/11/22
consumption when air conditioners in use is much higher than
the most energy-saving mode, testifying to the possibilities to
reduce refrigeration capacity consumption by adjusting users
behaviors with remarkable significance.
