The New Generation Heroes
The movie narrates the story of four individuals that tackles the world of teaching in all
its forms namely, Ms. Salvation Fajardo a retired, well-respected and well-loved teacher of 40
years played by Anita Linda. Who dedicated herself in teaching and wasnt able to have her
very own family, but she said that her child are her learners, her siblings are her co-teachers,
and her husband is her lesson plans. In comes a pushcart educator named Gener played by Jao
Mapa. His character is most likely inspired by the story of Efren Peaflorida, the pushcart
educator who was named CNN Hero of the Year in 2009. He collects donation of childrens book
to help young learners to acquire at least basic knowledge that could help them to make their
lives a bit easier. Third is an enterprising teacher named Lolita Lapuz played by Mrs. Universe
2017 Joyce Peas Pilarsky. She is a widow and the sole provider for her children. Her need to
raise her family has led to her finding all sorts of ways to make enough to make ends meet
besides teaching networking, buy and sell, selling home-cooked meals, etc. And last is Cora
Tolentino played by Aiko Melendez, an OFW who is an English teacher in Korea. She decided to
work overseas in an effort to give her family in the Philippines a better life. Little did she know
that her husband was using the money she sent home on alcohol and gambling and her eldest
child, Tony, was a drug addict and unfortunately was killed by the police as part of the
governments operation tokhang and this became her reason to leave her job in Korea and
decide to come back home to the Philippines. Four stories of dedication, strength of character,
love of family, these four are the new generation heroes.
Teachers plant dreams and determination on every learners heart. They are the
foundation of knowledge, sculptured and developed each one of us to become what and who
we are. Teachers are like fairy godmothers, they turn our dreams into reality. Teachers arent
ordinary people, they are superheroes Teachers aren't heroes for being shot while wrestling
with an armed gunman or being impaled by debris in the middle of a storm. Our teachers are
heroes for showing up every day in a world that sometimes shows little hope for normalcy let
alone improvement. For believing over and over that helping students think for themselves and
advocate for their futures is necessary. For trusting that learning is possible for all students and
maybe the only thing that will save us. Teachers aren't heroes because they would die helping
others if we were called upon to do so; they are heroes because they live every day helping
others even when we aren't summoned or acknowledged or even seen. There is a louder call
than crisis, and it is ignorance. And it leads to a nobler pursuit than heroism, called
perseverance. Yes teachers would surely protect those in their chargebecause they are
humanbut they do it in schools because we are teachers.
