Vessel Sizing Report using ICARUS

1. OBJECTIVE
The objective of this report is to compare the vessel sizing result of ACCE with the existing vessel
sizing result of BS-171. Vessel sizing flow rate and physical properties are taken from BS-171
simulation.

2. SIZING COMPARISON
Sizes of Inlet LP K.O. drum (Horizontal) and LP compressor suction drum (vertical) of BS-171 has been sized
in ACCE by using the following two methods. The sizes arrived based on ACCE have been compared with
BS-171 vessel sizes and results are provided in the report.
 Liquid Entrainment Method (LEM)
 Particle Separation Method (PSM)

3. STEPS FOR EXECUTE VESSEL SIZING

The following are the steps followed during the vessel sizing using ACCE.

Step 1: Vertical vessel being sized by using the ACCE default criteria (LEM and PSM). Refer table 5.1 & 5.2.

Step 2: Vertical Vessel being sized by ACCE for given BS-171 criteria. Refer table 5.3.

Step 3: Vertical Vessel being sized using the user defined SF (SF calculated manually). Refer table 5.4.

4. ACCE VESSEL SIZING INPUTS & ACCE DEFAULT VALUES

4.1 The following Inputs are required to perform the vessel Sizing and values which are mentioned below
are considered by ACCE as default values for sizing the vessel.
Liquid Entrainment Method (LEM)
a) Process vessel Height and Diameter ratio : 3
b) Residence Time : 10 min
c) Separation Factor : 0.006
d) Minimum Disengagement Height :-
e) Height of Mist Eliminator :-
f) Minimum Height Above the Mist Eliminator :-
g) Minimum Ht. Btw Low and High Liquid Level Tap : 1250 mm
h) Ht. Btw Inlet Nozzle and High Liquid Level Tap : 600 mm
i) Ht. Btw Low Liquid Level Tap and Tangent Line : 150 mm
j) Separation factor multiplier (only for horizontal)
k) Vapour area/cross sectional area (only for horizontal)
Particle Separation Method (PSM)
a) Process vessel Height and Diameter ratio :3
b) Residence Time : 10 min
c) Average Liquid Particle diameter : 3.81 mm
d) Minimum Disengagement Height
e) Height of Mist Eliminator
f) Minimum Height Above the Mist Eliminator
g) Design factor multiplier for disengagement velocity : 0.5
h) Minimum Ht. Btw Low and High Liquid Level Tap : 1250 mm
i) Ht. Btw Inlet Nozzle and High Liquid Level Tap : 600 mm
j) Ht. Btw Low Liquid Level Tap and Tangent Line : 150 mm
k) Separation factor multiplier (only for horizontal)
l) Vapour area/cross sectional area (only for horizontal)

6. CONCLUSION
Based on the above exercise it is conclude that vessel dimensions which are calculated by ACCE
approximately 50% lesser than the BS-171 actual sizing . Hence vessel sizing shall be carried out by citrix
tools and result to be considered in the ACCE for costing.
