Part 2: Rebar
Steel for the reinforcement of concrete -
Part 2: Ribbed bars

1 Scope of application

This standard specifies requirements for rebar steel used as reinforcement in concrete structures.

This standard applies to rebar grades: CB300-V, CB400-V, CB500-V, CB600-V, supplied in straight,
coil and straightened products. Manufacturing technology selected by the manufacturer.

This standard does not apply to rebar fabricated from finished products such as sheet or rail.
Note 1 to entry: The first "CB" stands for concrete reinforcement. The next three digits represent the specified value of the
upper yield strength, in Megapascals. The last symbol "V" stands for rebar.

NOTE 2 Steel grade CB600-V is not used for welding.

The specified values, ks, for each product and manufacturer shall be used.
The mean values in formula (3) do not apply if all eigenvalues are above the specified required values.
All smelting batches must comply with the requirements for chemical composition including carbon
equivalent.
Other requirements shall be met for each test piece.

When the test results are not satisfactory according to this clause, the manufacturer shall immediately
take the necessary precautions. Unsatisfactory castings must be set aside.

all other properties specified in this standard.

11.3.2.3 Evaluation of the results

11.3.2.3.1 Quantitative signs test

For properties specified as characteristic values, the following shall be determined:

a) all eigenvalues, x i , of 15 test samples ( n = 15);

b) The average value, m 15 (with n = 15);

c) standard deviation, S 15 (with n = 15).

The test lot complies with the requirements if the conditions given below satisfy all the properties.

m 15 - 2.33 x S 15 ³ f k (4) in there

f k is the specified characteristic value;

2.33 is the value of the acceptance index k , with n = 15 and 5 % failure rate ( p = 0.95) with 90%
probability (1 - a = 0.90).

If the above condition is not satisfied, the index

determined from available test results. If k' ³ 2 then the test can be continued. In this case, 45 further
samples shall be tested from different bars in the test lot, for a total of 60 test results ( n = 60).
The test lot is considered to satisfy the requirements if the conditions given below are satisfied with all
the properties:
m 60 - 1.93 x S 60 > f k (7)

where 1.93 is the value of the acceptance index, k , for n = 60 and failure rate is 5 % ( p = 0.95) with a
probability equal to 90% (1 - a = 0.90).

11.3.2.3.2 Check for exclusions

When the test properties are specified as maximum or minimum value, all results determined on 15 test
pieces shall satisfy the requirements of the product standard. In this case the test lot is judged to meet
the requirements.
Tests may continue when at most two results do not conform to the condition. In this case 45 further
test pieces shall be tested from different bars in the batch such that a total of 60 test results will be
obtained. The test lot meets the requirements if at most 2 out of 60 results do not satisfy these
conditions.

11.3.2.3.3 Chemical composition

Both test pieces shall comply with the requirements of this standard.

11.3.3 Check specified min/max values

The tests shall be carried out as follows:

a) Bars from the same cast shall belong to one group. For every 50 t or part thereof, one tensile test
and one bend/re-bend test shall be carried out for one diameter class;
b) Each individual test result shall satisfy the required values according to Table 6 and the
flexural/rebend test properties in 7.2 and 7.3. Each cooking batch shall be subjected to a casting
analysis once to check the chemical composition (Clause 6). Samples shall be taken in accordance
with ISO 14284;
c) If any one test result does not satisfy the requirements, a retest may be carried out in accordance
with ISO 404;
d) The manufacturer shall provide a test report demonstrating that the supplied products satisfy the
chemical and mechanical properties specified in Clauses 6 and 7 and a statement that the
requirements Other aspects of this standard are also satisfied.

11.3.4 Test report

The test report shall include the following information:

a) Steel symbol for concrete reinforcement according to this standard;
b) Label on steel for concrete reinforcement;

c) Timings
d) mass of the test lot;

e) Test results.

b) One digit of the veins or nominal marks between the veins or marks that are not visible.
c) Numbers on steel bar surface.
d) Marks are marked or rolled with a numeral of the ribs or nominal marks between them.

A.3.4 A symbol indicating the beginning of a mark shall be one of the following:

a) where the marking method uses larger veins or marks, the marking indicating the beginning of the
mark shall consist of two consecutive larger veins or marks. For example, see Figure A.1

22
TCVN 1651-2:2018

b) where the marking method uses larger invisible veins or marks, the marking indicating the
beginning of the mark shall consist of two consecutive invisible veins or marks;
c) when numerals are rolled onto the surface of the bar, the marking indicating the beginning of the
mark shall include an X or an O;
d) When a mark is rolled or stamped onto the surface of the bar, the marking indicating the beginning
of the mark shall include two marks between a pair of nominal ribs or marks.
A.3.5 Country of manufacture shall be indicated by a single digit from 1 to 9 in accordance with Table
A.1. (For example, see Figure A.1).
A.3.6 Manufacturer's digits must consist of one or two digits from 1 to 99, except for multiples of ten.
(For example, see Figure A.1).

A.4 Example 2: System according to ASTM A615/A615M-15a and ASTM A706/A706M-14

A.4.1 When loading for transport, the steel bars must be separated and tagged by the manufacturer
reasonably include the batch number and inspection identification number.
A.4.2 Each manufacturer shall define the symbols of its labeling system.

A.4.3 All steel bars shall be identified by a set of distinctly rolled marks on the surface of one side of the
bar to indicate the following items in the order given from A.4.3.1 to A.4.3.4.
A.4.3.1 Starting point

A letter or symbol established by the manufacturer.

A.4.3.2 Size convention symbol

The Arabic numeral corresponds to the conventional numeral of the bar (nominal diameter).
A.4.3.3 Steels

23
TCVN 1651-2:2018

Write an S if the bar is fabricated in accordance with ASTM A615/A615 M, or a W if the bar is fabricated
in accordance with ASTM A706/A706M. No marking if the bar is fabricated according to CSA G30.18-
M1992.
A.4.3.4 Conventional symbol for minimum yield strength

For grade 420, either a 4 or a continuous longitudinal straight line through at least 5 intervals from the
center of the bar (horizontal ribs). For grade 550, either 6 or 3 continuous longitudinal lines through at
least 5 intervals from the center of the bar (horizontal ribs). (No symbol for steel grade 280).
