Seven Segment
The Outputs of this normal decoder are used to drive the 7-segment LED
display.

In the figure, various arrangements of the display corresponding to the
relevant BCD code are shown. Here, the segments, which remain ON, are shown
and the segments which remain off are written below each representation of the
Code.
All the anodes are connected together in a common anode type of 7-segment
display and all the cathodes are connected together in the common cathode type
connecting a current limiting resistance across each of the seven cathodes of the
LEDs and the ground. In case of the common cathod 7-segment display the
current limiting resistance is connected accross each anode of the LEDs and the
+Vcc.
Show the common anode type and the common cathode type of 7-segment
display. Let us now attempt to design a decoder circuit to drive the 7-segment
display device.
IC7447
We have discussed the use of Ics 7446 and 7448 in driving the 7-segment
displays. Now let us study another IC7447 which is used to drive these displays
Solution:
As we can see from the circuit shown in figure, the seven segments from a
to g of the display have been connected to the outputs of the IC 7447. The
particular BCD code given at the inputs of the IC is 1001 then the outputs
connected to the segment e will remain low. Thus, a=1, b=1, c=1, d=1, e=0, f=1
