“I can Hammer” Lesson Plan

Teacher: Ms. Jackson Level: K & 1st Grade


Objectives:
1. Students will move to the steady beat of the song with five different body parts.
2. Students will aurally recognize the song.

Standards being Addressed:


MU:Pr6.1.Ka With guidance, perform music with expression.

Materials for Instruction:

Sequence:
Activity 1- I can Hammer
1. Today we are going to build something with a hammer, what could we build with a
hammer?”
2. T sings song while Ss move their wrist to the beat
3. T shows and numbers their body hammers (both hands, both feet, head)
4. T: “lay down quietly and when I hum the song sit up”
5. T hums song.
6. T: “we’re not done building so we need to hammer again, if you think you can sing with
me you can”
7. T and Ss sing and move
8. T: “lay down, I know you are very tired so this time we are going to hammer like this,
can you show me your hammers, okay here we go”
9. T and Ss sing and move

Assessment:
1. Did students move to the steady beat of the song with five different body parts?

2. Did students aurally recognize the song? (Informal)
