Annual Maintenance Schedule
This x-ray system’s operating parameters were checked when it was installed. As with other
electrical/mechanical devices it is advisable to carry out routine maintenance inspections. These
inspections are to be carried out by a technician authorized by de Götzen® S.r.l or its authorized agents.
This technician is to be provided with sufficient training to be qualified to do so. de Götzen® S.r.l
recommends that this inspection be carried out on an annual basis to verify system function. The
original copy is to be signed by the technician and left with the dental practice for its records.

The following checks must be performed on an annual basis by a qualified serviceman.

Labels: Verify that the certification and other labels on the timer control, tube
head, and cone are in place and legible.

Tube head: Check for oil leaks. If found, contact TG Group to obtain an RA.
number to return to TG Group for repair/replacement. Discontinue use
of system.

Cone: Inspect for damage. Are lead diaphragms in place? If not, replace
cone before using. Check “xgenus®” catalogue for correct cone
selection.

Exposure Switch: Inspect switch and cord for damage. Replace if necessary.

Line Voltage: Verify that voltage is within 109.25 to 126.5 VAC.

Verify that voltage is within 97.75 to 132.25 VAC.

Line Voltage fluctuation: Check that the line voltage fluctuation is within 1.2% or 3% average.

V0 − V1
∆V =
V0

V0 = no-load main voltage

V1 = main voltage with load

If not, contact an electrician or local power supply company to correct.

Voltage Drop: Establish that the voltage drop is within the manufacturer’s

requirements. This specification is less than 1.6V/3.5V drop across
head.

Milliamperes: Should read 8mA ±15% @(109.25 – 126.5VAC).

Should read (4mA – 8mA) ±10% @(97.75 ÷132.25VAC)
If mA measures out of range, contact your TG Group dealer technical
support.

kVp: 70kVp±15% for “xgenus® ac”

Should read (60kVp – 70kVp) ±10% @(97.75 ÷132.25VAC).
If kVp measures out of range, contact your TG Group dealer technical
support.

xgenus® dc only

xgenus® ac/dc 3
Control XGT verification: 0.08s exposure

Verification from 0.02 to 1.6s @(97.75 – 132.25VAC)

For 0.02s to 0.05s should read ±0.005s

For 0.063s to 1.6s should read ±10%
If time (s) measures out of range, contact your TG Group dealer
technical support.

∗∗
NOTE: Selected Exposure time and “corrected actual time”.

The xgenus® timer carries a special feature which allows it to automatically correct exposure time in
case the line voltage has drifted from 115 V.

A change in the line voltage affects the peak voltage applied to the x-ray tube and the value of high
voltage affects significantly the spectrum of the radiation, which finally affects the optical density of
the image on the film.

The purpose of the timer xgenus® correction is to provide basically the same radiation dose on the
film in case of any variation of the line voltage, within the standard accepted limits of the rated
voltage (115V +10% -5%).

The automatic correction of the exposure time works in the following sequence:

The internal voltmeter of the xgenus® timer monitors continuously the line voltage while the user
selects the desired exposure time.

Once the user has selected the exposure time that is thought adequate to obtain the proper quality
of the image for that specific examination, the user presses the x-ray button and the xgenus® timer
displays the corrected actual exposure time that has been determined by the xgenus® timer itself
on the basis of the line voltage measured just after pressing the x-ray button, and that shall be used
for that specific examination.

Timer accuracy on the corrected exposure time

The display will indicate the corrected time during the duty cycle pause, just after exposure.

“de Götzen S.r.l” recommends that the xgenus® timer accuracy be verified annually, utilizing the
following procedure.

The following is the method of verification for timing:

(a) Non – Invasive measure

To be carried out with calibrated instruments:
Keithley Instruments TRIAD QA for windows, PMX II meter, Victoreen NERO ANALISYS or
equivalent.

The following is the method of verification for timing:

• Position the X-ray detector in front of the cone by centering it at the outlet of the primary
beam.
• Set the emission time on the xgenus® timer.
• Press the exposure button (“dead man”).
• Read on the display, during the duty cycle pause, the time shown.
• Read on the instrument the measured emission time.

b. The LED (AC or DC) of the selected radiographic unit is lit.
c. The "CONTROL BUTTON" LED is lit over the duration of the acoustic signal.

2. Checking the power drawn by the radiographic system: CAUTION! Radiation will
be emitted.

4. Exposure time (s)

The exposure time is measured with a “non invasive” instrument.

∗∗
PLEASE NOTE
The “xgenus” x-ray control features the "self-compensating" technology.
The automatic correction or compensation of the exposure time offsets the effects of the
line voltage fluctuations on x-ray film quality.
Radiographic over/under exposure is eliminated.
The automatic correction system works as follows:
• A voltmeter located inside the timer constantly reads the mains voltage
while the operator selects the required exposure time.
• The last voltage measured (before the exposure) is sent to the
microprocessor. The selected exposure time is corrected by applying a
special algorithm.
• At the end of the exposure, during the pause time, the time-corrected value
is shown on the display of the x-ray control.
THE PAUSE TIME IS APPROX. 32 TIMES THE SET TIME.
The correct time is the actual duration of the exposure

The accuracy of the “actual time” is factory checked with instrument PMX-I.

∗∗
5. Checking the exposure time (continued on p. 18: “Operating instructions”)

WARNING
While performing periodic quality checks, some differences between the set exposure time and
the measured exposure time may be detected.
The differences are due to the automatic time compensation that intervenes when the power
voltage differs from the nominal one.

The x-ray control is provided with two types of accuracy measurements for the exposure time:

A. Set exposure (is the exposure time set by the operator on the x-ray control).

The max error is +100% / - 100% when the voltage fluctuation is -5% / +10%.

B. After exposure: the exposure time indicated (automatically adjusted) is calculated by the
microprocessor according to the line voltage (shown on LED display).

b. Turn on the x-ray control
c. Set one exposure time on the control.
d. Release the exposure.
e. At the end of the exposure, when the functional pause period starts, read the actual time of
exposure on the display.
