SELF SUPPORTING TYRES BENEFITS

Safety In case of a puncture a Self-Supporting Run Flat tyre offers stability and
handling to keep control of your vehicle.

Security A flat tyre won’t leave you stranded in the middle of the country-side or in a
bad neighbourhood.
Just drive home...

Peace Of No need to change the flat tyre immediately. First drive home and then
change your tyre. Comfort for you and your family. A flat tyre won’t mean
Mind missing an airplane or an important appointment.

Car Design The absence of the spare wheel means more freedom during development for
the car maker, reduced weight ... and means more trunk space for the end

PIRELLI’S APPROACH TO SELF SUPPORTING TYRES

Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology represents the most

comprehensive approach to road safety and driving pleasure: the ability to
keep driving, even with a flat tyre, while maintaining control of the vehicle.

Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat tyres are the

result of the innovative Pirelli MIRS ™ production
process entirely overseen by computers that
guarantees an end result characterized by the
highest standards of quality and reliability.

Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat tyres are designed to keep your car or
SUV stable for you to continue your journey safely. The distance and
speed the tyre is cabable of withstanding when deflated depends on
the type of tyre and the vehicle type the tyre is fitted on.

Generally the distance is up to 80 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.

Please check the vehicle owners manual for more accurate guidelines.

SELF SUPPORTING TYRES REQUIREMENTS AND IDENTIFICATION

A prerequisite for the operation of Self-

Supporting Run Flat Tyres is a TPMS (Tyre
Pressure Monitoring System).

In the event of the tyre losing pressure after

a puncture or accidental damage, a pressure
loss monitor linked to the ABS system or a
sensor inside the wheel rim alerts the driver
to the problem in good time through the
central processing unit.

In addition, an EH2 (Double Extended

Hump) rim is recommended although it
is permissible to use a standard H2
H2 rim
(Double Hump) rim.
The EH2 rim ensures a safer bead
retention in deflated conditions.

SELF SUPPORTING TYRES REQUIREMENTS
AND IDENTIFICATION

Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat tyres can be identified

by the RUN FLAT inscription on the tyre sidewall.

After pressure loss, self-supporting run-flat tyres can continue to run for 80km at a
maximum speed of 80km/h depending on the type of run-flat tyre and the type of vehicle.
Always refer to the vehicle owner’s manual with respect to specific safety and operating
information relating to the vehicle.

Damaged self-supporting run-flat tyres, or self-supporting run-flat tyres that have

experienced a loss of pressure should be immediately replaced with another self-
supporting run flat tyre of identical size and service description (load index and speed
rating).

Never mix ‘non’ run-flat and run-flat tyres on the same vehicle.
Only fit BMW run-flat tyres on BMW and only fit Mercedes Extended Mobility run-flat
tyres on Mercedes.

A tyre of a different type, or which contains a different load index or speed rating should
never be mounted on the same vehicle.
