BISEP®
Hot Tapping & Plugging
Hot Tapping and Plugging can be achieved using the DNV GL type approved BISEP®. STATS
patented BISEP provides fail-safe double block and bleed isolation deployed through a
single full bore hot tap penetration, without the need for additional bleed or vent ports.
The BISEP offers significant safety advantages over traditional line stop technology, the
hydraulically activated dual seals provide leak-tight isolation of live, pressurised pipelines.

STATS can supply welded split tee fittings or temporary mechanical hot tap clamps along with
STATS patented dual seal slab valves and hot tapping services. Once the BISEP is recovered,
STATS can provide a completion plug to provide permanent isolation to the branch off-
take and enable the removal of the slab valve allowing a blind flange to be fitted.

Operator Benefits
ŠŠ Fully verified Double Block and Bleed isolation through a single hot tap point
ŠŠ Leak-tight isolation dramatically increases safety over traditional line stop technology
ŠŠ Single operation significantly reduces timescales and costs. (Single fitting,
welding, inspection, scaffolding, crane and excavation costs)
ŠŠ Single fitting allows installation on short sections of pipework
ŠŠ BISEP technology complies with operator double block and bleed requirements
ŠŠ Minimal production disruption on interconnected pipeline networks during valve repairs / tie-ins

DNV GL Type Approval

STATS BISEP is fully certified by DNV GL to verify that the design criteria satisfies the requirements for Pipeline
Isolation Plugs to provide dual seal and isolation in accordance with Offshore Standards; DNVGL-OS-F101
(Submarine Pipeline Systems) and recommended Practices; DNVGL-RP-F113 (Subsea Pipeline Repair) and in
compliance with the following code; ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 2.

24” Dual BISEP®, Canada

BISEP® Key Features
ŠŠ Dual seal annulus void proves and ŠŠ BISEP isolation installed upstream
monitors the seal integrity before and of fitting, maintaining fitting in
during any intervention work safe zone during workscope
ŠŠ Isolation integrity continuously ŠŠ BISEP launcher ported to facilitate venting,
monitored through annulus void, purging and flushing of isolated section
hydraulic set circuit and body vents ŠŠ Can be deployed through conventional
ŠŠ Seal annulus void provides a Zero-Energy Zone equal tee / clamp / branch
ŠŠ Design provides axial restraint through bearing
on dual clevis plates (no single point failure)
ŠŠ Dual compression seals are more
compliant and have a far higher
success rate than traditional cup seals
particularly in pitted pipework
ŠŠ Self-Energisation of seals maintains
isolation integrity independent
of hydraulic control circuit
ŠŠ No need for additional taps
for bleed or vent ports
ŠŠ The BISEP can accommodate a
reinstatement pressure test against
the rear of the plugging head

Specification
ŠŠ Size range: 3”– 54”
ŠŠ For sizes 2” and below see STATS BI-STOP™ range
ŠŠ Pressure range: up to 153 bar
ŠŠ DNV GL Type Approval
ŠŠ Design allows for deployment into flow conditions (Engineering Assessment Required)

30” BISEP® with bypass, USA

Subsea BISEP®
Hot Tapping & Plugging
Subsea Applications
ŠŠ Sectional replacement / pipeline repair

ŠŠ Pipeline tie-in operations

ŠŠ Pipeline re-routing

ŠŠ Dead leg removal

ŠŠ Pipeline abandonment and decommissioning

Subsea BISEP® Key Features

ŠŠ Double block and bleed isolation compliant
with subsea industry isolation best
practice. (DNVGL-RP-F113 Pipeline Subsea
Repair – recommended practice).
ŠŠ Both barrier seals are independently proved with
full differential pressure in the correct direction
ŠŠ The annulus cavity between the fully proved
seals provides a zero-energy zone (minimal
volume x pressure) that is monitored
throughout the isolation period.
ŠŠ Enhanced actuation system redundancy mitigates
against long-term disconnection from support
vessel. (Due to extreme weather conditions).
ŠŠ Isolation remains stable and leak-tight even with
dramatically fluctuating pipeline pressures
ŠŠ The BISEP design ensures diver safety in the event of
negative and positive pipeline differential pressures
