INTEGRATED SKILLS TEST

PARAMETERS

The students undertaking the test are Saudi Arabian male undergraduate students

undertaking the EFL course at the intermediate level and have been learning the second language

for the past one year. The class consists of 15 students falling within the age group of 18-25

years of age. The test designed is an integrated skills test testing the listening, writing and

speaking abilities of the test as well. The test will require the students to be in groups consist of 3

member each group to discuss their presentation in the class. The test is an achievement to see

the student’s performances for the past month and serve as a midterm.

TEST GOALS

The integrated skills test being designed is expected to achieve the following test goals which

are as follows:

 Improving the student’s listening and comprehension skills

 Improving the student’s ability to retain information as well as communicate through

sentence building and thus improving student’s speaking skills

 Improving the student’s writing ability summarizing the content communicated to the

student

TEST OBJECTIVES

 Demonstrate the listening and speaking ability by discussing and summarizing the

important points of the video shown by the instructor through 90% accuracy in

representing the summary orally in the class.

 Demonstrate the writing skills by summarizing the points in the video in the form of a

short essay with at least 90% accuracy

Directions to the test

You will be shown a video and based upon that video you have to do the following:

1. Clearly listening to the video 12 minutes (You will listen only once)

2. Discussing with the group members for 15 minutes (The teacher will assign you with a

partners)

3. Giving an oral presentation in the class for 5 minutes (All the group members together)

4. Write a short essay summary about the video (minimum 250 words and maximum 500

words)

SPEAKING TEST (50 POINTS)

 All the group members are required to discuss the content of the video with each other

 Each student should speak by turn and pose at least one question

 All the information from the video needs to be integrated for the speaking test

WRITING TEST (50 POINTS)

 Students are required to write a short essay of at least 250 to 500 words based upon the

content summarized from the video.

 Each student is to write the essay individually.

 All the important points of the video must be covered.

 Essay must be well structured and organized.

 You only have 30 minutes to complete the essay.
