Oil Pan Removal Note

Caution
• Pry tools can easily scratch the oil pan mounting surfaces. Prying off the oil pan can easily bend the

1
oil pan flange.
Refer to the following instructions before removing the oil pan.
1. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts.
2. Remove the sealant from the bolt threads.
3. Screw an oil pan bolt into the weldnut to make a small gap between the cylinder block and the oil pan.

4. Remove the oil pan using the separator tool.

Oil Pan Installation Note

Caution
• If the bolts are reused, remove the old sealant from the bolt threads. Tightening a bolt that has ol d
sealant on it can cause bolt hole damage.

1. Apply silicone sealant to the oil pan along the inside of the bolt holes and overlap the ends.

Thickness
2.5-3. 5 mm {0.099-0.137 in}
2. Install the oil pan.
3. Hand tighten the flangeless bolts and tighten the flanged bolts.

ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT
BME011114001W02
Warning
• Hot engines and engine oil can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it and the
engine oil has cooled.
• A vehicle that is lifted but not securely supported on safety stands is dangerous. It can slip or fall,
causing death or serious injury. Never work around or under a lifted vehicle if it is not securely
supported on safety stands.
• Continuous exposure with USE D engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your
skin by washing with soap and water immediately after this work.
Caution
• In case you spill engine oil on the front pipe, wipe it off completely. If you fail to wipe the spilled oil, it
will produce a white smoke because of the heat.
1. Position the vehicle on level ground.
2. Remove the oil fill er cap.
3. Remove the oil pan drain plug.
4. Drain the engine oil into a container.
5. Install the oil pan drain plug.
• Oil pan drain plug with a washer
1. Install the oil pan drain plug with a new washer.
Tightening torque
L3: 30-41 N·m {3.1-4.1 kgf·m, 23-30 ft·lbf}
MZR-CD (RF-Turbo): 12-17 N·m {1.2-1.8 kgf·m, 9-13 ft·lbf}
• Oil pan drain plug without a washer
1. Inspect the seal rubber of the oil pan drain plug and make sure there are no cracks or damage.
• If necessary, replace the oil pan drain plug.
2. Clean the flange surface (seal rubber) of the oil pan drain plug, then install the oil pan drain plug.
Tightening torque
22-30 N·m {2.2-3.1 kgf·m, 16-22 ft·lbf}
Note
• The amount of residual oil in the engine can vary wit h the replacement method, oil temperature, etc.
Verify the oil level after engine oil replacement.
6. Refill the engine with the speci fied type and amount of engine oil.

ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)]

BME011215001W05
Warning
• Drain the engine coolant while the engine is cold, otherwise it may burn you and cause serious injury.
1. Remove the cooling system cap, radiator drain plug and the rear heat er unit drain plug (if equipped).

2. Drain the coolant into a container.

3. Flush the cooling system with water until all traces of col or are gone.
4. Let the system drain completely.
5. Tighten the radiator drain plug.
Tightening torque
0.78-1.57 N·m {8.0-16.0 kgf·cm, 7.0-13.8 in·lbf}

Caution
• The engine has aluminum parts that can be damaged by alcohol or methanol antifreeze. Do not use
alcohol or methanol i n the cooling system. Use only ethylene-glycol-based coolant.
• Use only soft (demineralized) water in the coolant mixture. Water that contains minerals will reduce
the coolant's effectiveness.
• Engine coolant will damage paint. If engine coolant does get on a painted surface, rinse it off quickly.
6. Referring to the following chart, select proper volume percentage of the water and coolant.
Antifreeze solution mixture percentage
Volume percentage (%) Gravity at 20 °C
Coolant protection
Water Coolant {68 °F}

Above -16 °C {3 °F} 65 35 1.057

Above -26 °C {-15 °F} 55 45 1.072
Above -40 °C {-40 °F} 45 55 1.086
7. Slowly pour the coolant into the radiator up to the coolant filler port.
8. Refill the coolant into the res ervoir up to the F ULL m ark on the coolant reservoir.
9. Fully install the cooling system cap.
Caution
• If the coolant temperature becomes too high, stop the engine to prevent it from overheating.
10. Start the engine and let it idle until the cooling fan operates.
11. After engine warms up, perform the following steps.
(1) Run the engine at 2,500 rpm for 5 min.
(2) Run the engine at 3,000 rpm for 5 s, then return to idling.
(3) Repeat Step (2) several times.
(4) Run the engine at idle for 1 min.
12. Stop the engine and wait until it is cool.
13. Inspect the coolant level.
• If It is low, refill the coolant into the reservoir up to the F ULL mark on the coolant reservoir.
14. Inspect for coolant leakage.
• If the coolant leaks, specify the malfunctioning part and repair or replace it.

DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT [MZR-CD (RF Turbo)]

BME011015800W04
1. Remove the splash shield (RH).
2. Turn the center of the tensioner pulley clockwise to release tension to the drive belt.

3. Remove the drive belt.

4. Reinstall the drive belt or install a new drive belt.
5. Verify that the drive belt auto tensioner indicator m ark does not exceed the limit. (See DRIVE BELT

A/C COMPRESSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
BME071161450W01
1. Disconnect the negati ve battery cable.
2. Discharge the refrigerant from the system.
3. Remove the right side splash shield.
4. Loosen the drive belt and remove it.
Caution
• If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and
abnormal noise will occur. Always immediately plug open fittings after removing any refrigeration cycle
parts to keep moisture or foreign material out of the cycle.
• Do not allow A/C compressor oil to spill. Operating the A/C compressor without sufficient A/C
compressor oil can lead to abnormal noise and cause the A/C compressor to seize up.
5. Remove i n the order indicated in the table.
