ATMOSPHERIC DISTILLATION UNIT

To carry out fractionation of desalted crude oil into smaller

Purpose mixture called fraction under high temperature based its
volatility and boiling point.
Feedstock Desalted crude oil
• Inlet Temperature : 400 °C

• Column Temperature: 350 °C

Process Condition
• Column Pressure : 1 atm

• Tray : Bubble Cap Column

• The desalted crude oil from the desalting process is
heated in a furnace to 400 °C

• The partially vaporized crude oil from furnace enters the

flash zone of the column and fractionated in atmospheric
column.

• The liquid part flows to the bottom of the tower.

• The vapor part of the stream flows upward through the

tower producing diesel, kerosene and naphtha products.
Process Description • The naphtha, the lightest of the products, exits the top of
the tower as a vapor.

• The diesel and kerosene is fractionated as a liquid from

the crude through vaporization and condensation based
on the boiling range of the different products.

• The remaining reduced crude oil will exit at the bottom of

the column and go to Vacuum Distillation Unit

• The trays in the tower facilitate this fractionation or

separation process.
