EXPERIENCE
School Counselor Internship at Wilson High School, Tacoma Public School District Aug 2018 – Present
With oversight, given caseload of 90 freshmen and 75 sophomores. Conducted credit checks,
career counseling, SMART goal familiarity and collaborated with teachers, administrators and
parents, to ensure successful navigation and advocacy in academic and social/ emotional issues.
Conducted tier two and three interventions with freshman failing one or more classes their first
semester, resulting in a 32% decrease from mid-term to final class failure rate.
Created a PowerPoint presentation and conducted 10 Freshman and Sophomore classroom
presentations with question and answer period, covering the roles of school counseling,
graduation requirements and activities/clubs available at Wilson.
Prepared materials, passes and announcements for the Smarter Balanced Assessment testing
and proctored four sessions.
Coordinated with English Language Learner teachers to ensure their students were placed in
correct classes before the next semester, saving
Supervised and mentored 29 personnel in two departments, between the ages of 18-40. In charge
of writing evaluations, employee of the month/quarter/year packages, incentive and morale
awards and positive/negative counseling and career exploration and pathways.
Collaborated with 4 department heads on customer service, resulted in a 35% decrease in patient
conflicts.
Instilled problem solving, strong ethics and leadership values which resulted in 20% promotions,
four recognition awards and eight transfer commendations.
Guidance of careers to include schooling, finances, relationships, communication and life skills.
Served as lead facilitator/instructor for educational curricula covering diverse topics, such as
leadership development, supervisory skills training, effective communication, SMART Goal
setting, critical thinking, and conflict management.
Delivered 1769 hours of facilitated and formal instructor topics to 1243 students over 64 courses.
Instructed 32 hours of train the trainer training to peers and supervisors which resulted in 9
qualifications. This training included how to prepare lesson plans based on course objectives,
how to develop strategies to assess workforce capabilities and project training needs, and how to
counsel students and suggest how improvements can be achieved.
Mentored eight peers and supervisors in qualifications of six courses which resulted in increased
number of courses taught over a larger area of operation.
Conducted over 200 instructor evaluations to assist in maintaining high quality and effective
courses to personnel. This ensured the ability to track personnel qualifications and certifications
to schedule refresher training, provide verbal instructions, providing guidance, and counseling
students on how improvements can be achieved.
