    Special Report re – Rape with

    Homicide in Consolacion.
    On or about 2:30 A. M. of May 9, 2008 an incident of rape with homicide transpired at Brgy. Balaquid,
    Cabucgayan, Biliran wherein the victim was one Mrs. Ruth Lanante Y. Legaspino, 30 years old, a native of
    Cebu and maried to Mr. Arturo Lanante of Brgy. Balaquid, Cabucgayan, Biliran. Victim and her two minor
    children were only the occupants of their house when the incident happened because the husband is
    presently working abroad for more than three months before he left his family.
    Initial investigation conducted disclosed that there were two (2) suspects responsible of the said
    incident. One was immediately identified by Mr. Emillo Lenante a close neighbor of the victim who
    responded when he (Emilio) heard the loud voice of the victim shouting for help as Roberto Illar
    alias “Berto” a native of Brgy. Pinamopoan, Capoocan, Leyte, single who temporarily stayed at his
    step-father’s house at Brgy. Balaquid, Cabucgayan, Biliran.

    According to the witness, Mr. Emilio Lenante, he was only five meters away more or less when he
    saw the suspect Roberto hurriedly jumped outside from the house of the victim passing the window.
    Infact, he even chased the suspect but the suspect run too fast.

    Victim sustained stabbed wounds on the different parts of her body and she was rushed to Naval
    Procincial Hospital for treatment but expired few minutes later.

    Responding Policeman, PO3 Noel D. Mesa, PO2 Sebastian S. Dagalca Jr. and PO2 Darwin A.
    Villena Recovered one (1) knife about seven (7) inches long with blood stained believed to be the
    weapon used by the suspects.

    Suspect, Roberto who evade arrest was kept on hiding in the mountainous area of area Brgy.
    Balaquid while series of manhunt operations were also initiated by the Biliran Police Provincial
    Office against the suspect with the active support of the Brgy. Tanods of Balaquid. However, on the
    evening of May 15, 2008, at about 9:30 o’clock more or less suspect Roberto Illar was found dead by
    Brgy. Tanods hanging using an electric wire tied on his neck inside the unoccupied house of the
    suspect’s step-father which is quite distance away from the Brgy. proper of Brgy. Balaquidm
    Cabucgayan, Biliran.
    Other suspect was identified later as Roger De La Cruz, married also of Brgy. Balaquid, Cabucgayan,
    Biliran who is now under arrest after the suspect’s father Mr. Constantino De La Cruz revealed to the
    Police that his son Reger confessed to him (Constantino) that he was the companion of Roberto Illar
    who raped and stabbed Ruth Lenante on the early morning of May 9, 2008. Because they (Suspects)
    were drunk on that time.

    This instant case is considered solved with corresponding formal charge against the suspect (s) now
    being filed before the Prosecutor’s Office of Naval, Biliran, Under I.S. Nr. 2008-97.
