TERMINAL
FADE IN :
INT. CONSULTANT OFFICE – DAY
Opens on a shot of JAKE holding a brochure with the words

‘Dont Give Up’ in his hands with the Cancer association of
Ireland symbol on it. He slowly looks up to face his
consultant, who has a concerned look on his face.
CONSULTANT
It is important that you dont give up hope Jake
Jake nods his head, without saying a word, He gets up to leave

and the consultant extends his hand for a handshake, to which
Jake simply places the brochure and leaves the room.
INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY - DAY
We follow Jakes first person view through the hallways where

he looks left and right constently seeing old men COUGHING,
people breaking down in dispair and Nurses and Doctors.
EXT. BUSY STREET SAN FRAN - DAY
Jake leaves the building and spills onto the busy streets of
San Francisco but is totally distracted, he continuously bumps
into people, He goes to cross the street, not realising that
there is a green light, a truck jams on his breaks and BEEPS
his horn to prevent crashing into Jake. It pans from Jake
looking at his feet to looking at an angry, extremely animated
driver.
TRUCK DRIVER
Jesus Christ man, you could’ve gotten yourself killed.
CUT TO :
EXT. OUTSIDE SUB URBAN HOME – DAY
Jake takes his keys out of his pocket and go to put them in
the door but drops them, we see him clench his fists and bend
over to pick them up, he puts the key in the door and twists
right and enters the door.
INT. JAKES HOME – DAY
Jake looks down to a pile of about 5 letters on the ground, he

picks them up. The first one has the name Jake Bennett on it,
he flicks it to the back of the pile, the next one has Karen
Bennett written on it. He drops the other 4 letters and holds
this one for a little while before he places it neatly onto an
overflowing pile of letters for Karen Bennett on a side table
near the door.
We hear rapid SCRATCHING and BARKING from the kitchen door,

Jake walks over and opens it slightly and a large labrador
comes bounding out and knocks Jake over, he LAUGHS and rubs
the dogs head, We catch a glimpse of a sparkling nametag
around its collar with the name Karen. Jake walks into the
kitchen and unlocks the back door allowing the dog to bound
out as he reaches for a cigarette from his pocket, He pulls
one out of the full box, looks at it for a couple of seconds,
SIGHS, puts it in his mouth and lights it.
He finishes his cigarette and flicks it into his garden and

WHISTLES at his dog and pats his leg, The dog comes running
over and re-enters the kitchen. He sits down on the floor with
her and slowly rubs her head
Jake
(quietly)What are we going to do with you, hey?
The dog just looks up at him, panting and smiling and licks
his hand and collapses her head onto his knees.
CUT TO:
INT. JAKES HOUSE – NIGHT
Jake is sitting infront of his computer, he glances over to

the a clock and the time reads 2:44 am, He looks down on the
table to a packet of cigarettes and opens the box, which is
empty. He glances at the computer screen and we see a website
open with the words ‘Rehome your Dog’ on the screen, he closes
it over and grabs his keys, walks over to the door and puts
and overcoat on and leaves the house.
EXT. STREETS OF SAN FRAN - NIGHT
The streets he walks now are calmer, well lit but not many
people around.
INT. CONVENIENCE STORE - NIGHT
He walks into an open convenience store and approaches a

foreign man behind the counter.
Jake
20 pack of Malboro, please.
SHOP ASSISTANT
Would you like to enter our store lottery sir? Only 10

dollars? The winner is announced next month.
Jake
No thanks, i dont think i can wait that long
Jake cracks a half smile, grabs his cigarettes and leaves the
store.
CUT TO:
INT. JAKES BEDROOM – DAY
Jake wakes up to the sound of his phone ringing, the time on

his clock says 11:13 am, He picks up his phone with a girl and
him as his screensaver and sees that it is his boss calling,
he holds it in his hand and presses decline call. He gets out
of bed and goes over to his wardrobe and picks out some
sweatpants and a shirt, sprays himself with cologne and walks
downstairs.
INT. JAKES KITCHEN – DAY
He opens the kitchen door to a happy dog, walks over to the

fridge takes out some ingredients to cook scrambled eggs. He
finishes the eggs and puts them on two seperate plates.
Jake
I made them how you like them.
He hands a plate down to his dog who is licking her lips.
Jake
The last supper buddy, Im gonna miss you alot. But i’ll get to
see Karen again soon.
Jake begins to get emotional, his eyes begin to well up and

his voice become hoarse and crackly.
Jake
Im sorry i have to do this to you (he dries his eyes), but im

not gonna be around for much longer.
Jake finishes his plate and begins to clean his plate when he
hears a RING on his doorbell. He opens it to find a very happy
middle aged woman.
WOMAN
Hi, im here for the dog?
Jake
Yeah, just give me a minute ok?
Woman
I’ll wait right here

INT. HALLWAY OF JAKES HOUSE – DAY
Jake grabs his dog and holds her close, they bundle together
for about 30 seconds before Jake lets go and guides the dog to
the door, The dog looks back at Jake with concern in her eyes.
Jake
She’ll take good care of you
Jake slowly shuts the door, not breaking eye contact with the
dog for a minute. As soon as the door fully closes he
collapses to the floor and puts his head in his heads and
begins to sob. He looks up at a picture of his wife Karen.
Jake
(slowly whispers) Im sorry.
Fade to black.
