SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of this lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Identify and describe the two types of sonnet and its essential parts.
2. Write their own sonnet with proper usage of the format.
TIME ALLOTMENT 2 session (120 mins)

CONTENT:

LESSON OUTLINE:
1. Introduction / Review: Articulation of the specific learning outcomes (5 minutes)
2. Motivation: Jigsaw puzzle and ask questions the difference of the pictures (10 minutes)
3. Instruction/Delivery: Quescussion of the two types of sonnet (20 minutes)
4. Practice: Group activity about filling gaps in sonnets (20 minutes)

PROCEDURE MEETING LEARNERS’ NEEDS


INTRODUCTION ( ___ MINUTES )

1. Introduce the following learning objectives by letting the students read them aloud.
1.1 After the discussion, the Grade 12 HUMSS students will identify the 4 characteristics of Petrarchan and Shakespearean sonnet.

2. Unlock the definitions of the following words. Ask the learners first and see if the class can derive the definitions based on student
responses:
a. Sonnet
b. Petrarchan Sonnet
c. Shakespearean Sonnet

B. REVIEW
1. Ask the learners to compare poem and sonnet
2. Ask them to cite the different literary conventions on poetry.

Sample responses:
1. Poem a piece of writing that usually has figurative language and that is written in separate lines that often have a repeated rhythm and
sometimes rhyme. Sonnet a poem made up of 14 lines that rhyme in a fixed pattern.
2. The different literary conventions on poetry are the following – haiku, pastoral, terza zima, ballad, imagery, limerick, epic poem, free verse
and sonnet.

MOTIVATION ( ___ MINUTES )


1. Group the class into three groups.
2. Give the envelopes to them with the jumbled pictures.
3. Let them organize the jumbled pictures.
4. Once they are done ask some questions about the picture and relate it for the discussion for today.

INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY (____MINUTES)

1. Ask from students a sort description about Petrarch and Shakespeare.


2. Discuss thoroughly the meaning of sonnet.
3. State the characteristics of a Petrarchan and Shakespearean sonnet.
4. Let the students compare and contrast the different characteristics of Petrarchan and Shakespearean sonnet.
5. Let them read two different sonnets afterwards ask them about what they can see on physical view about the sonnet.
6. Let the students identify each characteristic of the two sonnets by analyzing it and do the scansion.
