Objective

INSTALL CIVIL AND MECHANICAL PARTS OF SOLAR PV POWER PLANT

Unpack and Inspect
Unpack module carton box with care and:
1. Cut the packaging with care avoid hurting people
2. Carry module out of carton box with two or more people
3. Carry modules with proper method in case of module breakage
4. Place the module with proper support, do not place one on top of each
other
PV Module Handling

Unpacking and storing modules

Utmost attention is required when handling module(s). The following guidelines should be
followed with caution while unpacking. Transporting, and storing the modules:

Do not strike or physically damage the module

Carry modules with both hands. Do not use

the connection socket as a handle

Do not twist the module

Do not stand on the module

Do not mark the rear of the module using

sharp objects

Type of Footing - Factors
Parameters to keep in mind for identifying required footing

1. First thing to check is to see whether it is a

rooftop installation or ground mounting
2. Tilt angle and tracking characteristics of the
solar power system
3. Local design wind speeds and snow loads (if
applicable) where the solar power system is to
be installed.
4. Support and racking configuration.
5. Overall solar module system size and weight.
6. Local design codes and project requirements.
7. Soil characteristics relative to friction, sliding,
consolidation, slope stability, salinity, etc.
8. Brownfield or landfill. TYPES OF SLOPE TO IDENTIFY INCLINATION ANGLE
Type of Footing - Factors

Types of footing will depend on

A. Type of roof and angle of roof
B. In case of ground mounting, the type of soil

Types of Footing
Combined footing are used:
COLUMN 1. When the columns are very near to
each other, their foot stings overlaps.
2. When the bearing capacity of the soil
is less, required more area under

1. ISOLATED 1. It is provided under columns to transfer the load safely to bed soil
FOOTING 2. These footings may be slab, stepped or sloped ones

FOOTING
2. The aim is to get uniform pressure distribution under the footing for this,
the center of gravity of the footing area should coincide with center of gravity
of the combined loads of the two columns
Construction of Mounting
MARKING
1. Locate and measure the location of the rafters in the roof
2. Draw a chalk line on every rafter to identify the location

Quality Factor
Foundations for the module mounting structures, inverters, ACDB and other
equipment are marked precisely to avoid any overlap with obstruction or
misalignment during construction. Foundation to foundation distance should be
marked and measured carefully.
Construction of
Mounting
Install mounting posts, roof attachments and anchors
Concrete or appropriate grade according to design is mixed and casted with the
help of templates of the desired foundation size.

QUALITY FACTOR
Distance between foundation, J bolts are carefully maintained to avoid
misalignment and poor erection of structures.
Install Structural
Attachments
A. As per drawing and marketing
B. Proper tightening of nuts and bolts along with washers

QUALITY
Proper curing of foundation is essential to ensuring strength in concrete
Install Racks
1. Alignment of erected structures is
checked using water level.
2. Proper tightening of nuts used for
assembly needs to be checked.

IT HAS TO BE PROVIDED IF:

1. If roof conditions are not proper
2. Roof height is very high
3. Soil erosion possibilities
Corrosion Protection

Various protective coatings can be

applied to metals to help shield
metallic surfaces from the
surrounding environment,
including:
1. Epoxy power coating.
2. Oven-baked enamel.
3. Hot-dipped galvanization
4. PVC-type coatings
Weather Proofing
Seepage is possible if proper water not done after installation

Some of the traditional water proofing methods

are:
1. Integral waterproofing compounds
2. Brick bat lime coda treatment
3. Mud pukka

Some of the modern water proofing methods

are:
1. Silicon based water repellent
2. Polymerized bitumen
3. Water proofing by crystallization
(Cement and liquid polymer)
4. Water proofing membrane forming coating

Factors, like water pooling, insulation depth, weight bearing capability, and attachment
spacing are critical when planning a solar energy installation on an existing flat roof are
very important
