Incomplete Dominance vs.

Codominance

Read the statement and identify whether it is codominance or incomplete dominance.

Answer any questions, then color in the resulting offspring based on the results of the cross.

1. If you cross a black bunny with a white bunny and the offspring are grey. This is
an example of Incomplete dominance because neither of the parent alleles was
dominant of the other and the resulting heterozygous phenotype is an
intermediate/blend – grey fur.
What is the genotype of the black bunny? BB
What is the genotype of the white bunny? WW
What is the genotype of the grey bunny? BW

2. If you cross a black bunny with a white bunny and the offspring are black and
white spotted. This is an example of codominance because
there are two alleles that are dominant and neither masks the other – therefore
both phenotypes are present in the heterozygous offspring – black and white.
What is the genotype of the black bunny? BB
What is the genotype of the white bunny? WW
What is the genotype of the spotted bunny? BW

3. If you cross a red flower with a white flower and the offspring are red and white.
This is an example of codominance because there are two alleles that are
dominant and neither masks the other – therefore both phenotypes are
present in the heterozygous offspring – red and white

What is the genotype of the red flower? RR

What is the genotype of the white flower? WW
What is the genotype of the red and white flower? RW

4. If you cross a yellow flower with a red flower and the offspring are orange
flowers. This is an example Incomplete dominance because neither of the
parent alleles was dominant of the other and the resulting heterozygous
phenotype is an intermediate/blend – orange

What is the genotype of the yellow flower? ________

What is the genotype of the red flower? ________
What is the genotype of the orange flower? ________

5. Construct a punnett square that demonstrates a cross between a black and white
spotted bunny with another black and white spotted bunny. Color the parents and the
offspring to reflect the appropriate phenotypes. List the genotypes under each bunny.

Incomplete or codominance? codominance

What are the resulting phenotypes of this cross and their probabilities?
25% black, 50% black and white spotted, 25% white
What are the resulting genotypes of this cross and their probabilities? 25%
BB, 25% BW, 25% WW
What are the homozygous genotypes? BB and WW
What is the heterozygous genotype? BW

6. Make up your own codominant cross. Include the following: the genotypes
and phenotypes of the parents and the genotypes and phenotypes.
