ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) has been
established by Act No. 4 of Jharkhand State Assembly in 2010. The University has subsequently
been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in September 2011 u/s 22 of the UGC
Act of 1956 and approval u/s.12B is in its final stage.
National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi provides unparalleled
academic and career enhancement programs. Our commitment is towards holistic personality
development and we intend to create academia of first rate that will endeavour to transform
human lives. We create strategic lawyers with a global mind set. We are working to define and
fortify justice education in India and offer the widest choice of courses to students, which include
viz., B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) which varies over as many as five areas of specialization, the list of
which is inclusive but not exhaustive of Corporate Law, Constitutional Law, Intellectual property
Law, International Law and Criminal Law in the present. Our courses at the undergraduate level
include intra mooting exercises from the budding stage along with other application based
exercises and evaluation schemes including research papers and drafting to make the students
adapt and train them to face the challenges of the ever increasing up gradation and use of
technology in law. At the postgraduate level, the university offers LL.M. in Business Laws,
Intellectual Property Rights and Constitutional Law.
National University of Study & Research in Law was established in 2010, in the capital
city of Jharkhand i.e. Ranchi. The state of Jharkhand is a tribal state and as such 50 % of the
seats are reserved for the residents of Jharkhand, admission of Undergraduate & Postgraduate
courses is strictly bases upon CLAT results.

National University of Study & Research in Law, since its inception is striving to develop
legal professional proficiency amongst its students, who shall be competent to handle the
requirements of the changing needs of Bar & Bench as well as the economy.

The University has catered not only in the field of legal education but also strives to
enhance legal awareness to the common masses residing in various pockets of Jharkhand so that
the University can take part in developing the socio economic standard of Jharkhand.

In addition to these centers the University also runs a quarterly newsletter and half yearly
journals in the field of Law & Policy, Intellectual Property Rights, Constitutional Law &
Governance and Child Rights wherein not only the new developments in the legal education are
portrait but also the various events organized by the university are showcased.

National University of study and Research in Law, Ranchi has also planned to step in to
initiate a Distance Education Programme, designed to update knowledge and skills through e-
learning and regular contact classes which will not only be a value addition in terms of

knowledge and career growth for the taught, but shall also expand the horizon of thinking,
research and improvisation of teaching skills for the faculty of the University. Our curriculum
framing is done with a global perspective and delivered at world class standard to generate
especially skilled global legal professionals. The curriculum undergoes regular updating with
inputs from some of the brightest legal minds in the country and abroad.

National University of study and Research in Law is also equipped with distinguished
visiting faculties of national repute as well as a good mix of highly qualified and experienced
young associates. With a view to promote comparative scholarship and expose students and
faculty alike to new ideas, the university has also taken initiative to invite scholars from leading
universities. University organizes various workshops, training programmes, seminars and other
activities in collaboration with various Government and Non-Governmental Organization such
as BRP&D, UNICEF etc.,

In recent years, we have had visiting faculty from universities such as Prof. (Dr.)
N.R.MadhavaMenon, Founder Vice Chancellor, NLSIU Bangalore & WBNUJS Kolkata,
Prof.B.T.Koul, Director (Academic) Judicial Academy Delhi, National Law School of India
University, Bangalore Mr. A Jayagovind and Mr. SitaramKakarala, Prof. SurinderKaurVerma,
Director of International Society of International Law, Dr. Manoj Kr Sinha, Director of Indian
Law Institute, Delhi are the visiting faculty of the University.

AmarchandMangal Das, Lakshmi Kumaran and Sridharan, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices,
Khaitan & Co, ICICI Lombard, Hari Global Advisory Services, L & T Finance, Athena Law
Associates and Singh & Associates are of the recruiters of our students. Some of our alumni who
have acquired higher qualifications from prestigious institutions and garnered varied experience
share their learning on topics of contemporary interest in law and practice for the benefit of the
students.

University faculty cadre currently includes 3 Associate Professors (Law), 12 Assistant

Professor (Law) and 3 Assistant Professors (Humanities & Social Sciences) on regular basis and
3 Assistant Professors (Law) & 2 Assistant Professors (Social Sciences) on contract and 8
Teaching Assistant (Law & Social Sciences).

At the undergraduate level University offers Five-year Integrated BA LLB(Hons.)

Degree Program which consists of ten semesters. The University commenced its Research
Program in January 2012. The process for admitting students to its LLM (one year) and PhD
(Two years) is already going on through Entrance Test, Group Discussion and Viva-voce. Within
a span of nine years, the University has considerably spread its academic wings and has
established its outreach in the country and abroad.
Spread across approx.. 65 acres of land, University has academic building, hostels for
boys and girls and mess. University has excellent sports facilities which include cricket-cum-
football, lawn-tennis, basket ball, badminton grounds.

(vi) Criteria for Reservation for the Admission Seats of Jharkhand:

As per NUSRL, Ranchi Act 2010:

“Fifty percent of the total seats of a particular discipline of study shall be reserved for
residents of Jharkhand State or those who have passed the qualifying examination from the
institutions located in Jharkhand State and to the wards of the Employees of the Central/State
Government/University/Public Undertaking/Corporations/Boards/Academies, etc. working in
Jharkhand State. Reservation policy in this regard shall be applicable for admission against
these seats.”
