(ii) At constant temperature, 250 cm3 of nitrogen under 720 mm pressure and 300 cm3 of
oxygen under 650 mm pressure were put into a 1 dm3 flask. What will be final pressure
of the mixture?

pressure of N2 is 580 torr. Find the solubility of N2 in H2O at 20 C when its partial
pressure is 800 torr. (4 M)

(b) (i) Describe the limitation of Henry’s Law. (4 M)

6. (a) (i) Describe the properties of dilute solution containing non-volatile solute (4 M)

(ii) Calculate the vapour pressure lowering caused by the addition of 100 g of sucrose
(molecular mass = 342 amu) to 1000g of water if the vapour pressure of pure water at 25
C is 23.8 mmHg. (3 M)

(b) (i) The boiling point of a solution containing 0.20 g of a substance X in 20 g of ether is
0.17 K higher than that of pure ether. Calculate the molecular mass of X. Boiling point
constant of ether per 1 kg is 2.16 K. (4 M)

(ii) 0.440 g of a substance dissolved in 22.2 g of benzene lowered the freezing point of
benzene by 0.567 K. Calculate the molecular mass of the substance. (Kf = 5.12 Kkgmol-1)
