The Poor Performance of Hamilton County Students on their Tests
Based on the article, Hamilton County students are suddenly getting grades below state
benchmarks on their standardized test; that some results lead to dropout rate. Because dropout
rate and student performance are closely related to each other.
Considering the lumpy results of the exams, the state scoring reports informed Hamilton
County to monitor the 40,000 students if they were still on track that no child should left behind
as part of the protocol.
The shortcomings of the facilitators/educators to reach out the students, mostly the
children who are dealing with some problems or issues about their school performances.
Hamilton County fails to foresee the future outcomes; the deficiency of administrators
leads them to being unprepared for their future challenges.

the early-detection of at risk students. This was accomplished with the help of a performance
modeling tool that extracted individual student date from the country’s 78 schools and uses it to
create. Predictive profiles which help to flag those students in need of proactive intervention by
teachers or counselors before it comes to late. The model uses built in algorithms to determine
which factors are the strongest predictors of a student failing or dropping out. From the outcomes
of the model, the students are classified into four performance categories to identify which
students are “fragile or “off-track”.

however based on the results few years ago they noticed that students are consistently scoring
below on a standardized test. They realized that they need to take action before it’s too late that

is facing. Based on the article, analytics was used when Ms. Kelly found out about the outcome
of the students. She used an algorithm to categorize each student on what kind of track they
belong. The effect of this algorithm lead to the increasing percentage of student graduates.
Analytics was used in order to achieve Hamilton’s school goal which is to have more students
graduate.
Recommendation:
The school should maintain that kind of routine for the next batch of school year because
based on their historical data, the school belongs to the top performing schools in the area which
means students have a high expectations about that school and also the teachers should try new
teaching strategies for the students who are slow learners to cope up with the lesson and
understand it fully. The school should also try other programs that will help the students to know
or find what is their interest or motivation in studying. They should also adapt to different types
of students and learn to facilitate using different approach to make it more flexible for the
students.
