ZJ70D Drilling Rig

Mast

Foreword
JJ450/45-K mast is one of the main supporting components of ZJ70D
drilling rig. It is designed and manufactured as per users' requirements and
API Spec 4F 2008 Specification for Drilling and Well Servicing Structures,
the third edition.
In order to make users use this mast better, we make the User Manual
of JJ450/45-K Mast. This manual generally describes the technical
parameters, structure features, installation, lifting, lowering, lubrication,
maintenance, mothballing, carrying and transportation etc of the mast. The
mast operators must read this manual carefully before their installation and
operation.
There is a recommended spare parts list attached to this manual as a
reference for users ordering spare parts. If the spare parts needed by the
users are not included in the spare parts list, please order the spare parts as
per the parts list of the mast.
Each mast has a serial number, please point out the model, serial
number and manufacture data of the mast when users order spare parts or
inquire related things.

1. Safety warnings
Only trained and qualified persons can install, lift, lower and maintain the equipment
with qualification certificates.
Only the persons who are completely familiar with the mast's structure, lifting and
lowering operation procedures and control functions and read this manual can install,
lift, lower and maintain the mast.
The personnel engaged in operation and maintenance shall wear proper labor protection
articles and fasten safety belts while working high above the ground. Fasten safety belt
during overhead work.
At every stage of operating the mast, strictly execute safety operation specifications and
follow technical safety rules.
The lifter and handling equipment of the mast must adapt to the related weight to be
operated.
Use the lifting equipment with enough capability and follow all safety operation
specifications. Before carrying out adjustment and repair on the mast, ensure to release
the pressure of the hydraulic system and mark 'danger-no operation-repairing' with a
label on controller.
Before disassembling the mast, know whether there are preload components such as
springs at joints or not, and remove the preload with approved methods before
disassembly.
For the installation, lifting and lowering of the mast, make and follow specified safety
rules, and there shall be a specially-assigned person commanding the operation.

2. Product description
2.1. Purposes and applicability
2.1.1 Purposes
JJ450/45-K mast is one of the important components of ZJ70D drilling rig, is used
for emplacing crown block, hanging traveling system, arranging drill strings and stands,
performing normal drilling operation, tripping drilling strings and treating underground
accidents etc, and is a main bearing structural component of drilling rig.

3. Structural features and main components


3.1. Main structure
3.1.1 The mast mainly comprises mast main body, A-frame, lifting device, monkey
board ad mast accessories etc. Please refer to Fig. 1 for the overall structure and overall
dimensions of the mast.

3.1.2 The mast body comprises 5 left sections and 5 right sections. The length of the
section I is 7.78m, the length of the section II is 8.832m, and the lengths of the sections
III, IV and V are respectively 11.95m. Back rigid frame is arranged at the back of the

section II and rigid frames and inclined rods are arranged at the back of other sections,
thereby form the overall structure of the mast.
3.1.3 The front legs of the mast are located on the left and right base seats of the bottom
layer of the substructure, the back legs are supported on the A-frames through
jackscrews on the A-frames, and the mast is connected with the A-frames by U-bolts.
3.2. Structural features
3.2.1 This mast is a front open mast without guylines, the back rigid frame is of a
K-type structure. Every two sections contact with each other in a flat surface way and
are connected by padeyes and pins.
3.2.2 The mast is horizontally installed at a low position, and the mast and the top layer
of the substructure are integrally lifted to working position by the A-frames.
3.2.3 The buffer hydraulic cylinders fixed at the upper parts of the A-frames complete
the buffer action when the mast is lifted in position to prevent damage to the mast and
the substructure, and simultaneously they complete the action of pushing the mast when
the mast is lowered initially.
3.3. Main components: please refer to attached list 1 for weights and
transportation sizes of main mast components
4. Installation and regulation of mast
4.1. Installation of mast
4.1.1 The persons engaged in installation must be qualified, read the User Manual of
Mast carefully before installation, master the technical requirements on mast installation,
observe safety rules and install the mast as per operation rules and procedures. Blind
operation is forbidden.
4.1.2 All preparation work shall be completed before mast installation, including
installation tools and lifters etc. Count and check the parts and components as per the
models and quantities listed in the mast delivery list, repair and replace the parts
impacted to deform during the transportation process, and supplement the missing ones.
4.1.3 Requirements on installation foundation: the field, 50m long and 15m wide, along
the mast lying position, shall be tamped, leveled and drained for parts stockpiling and
lifting operation. Particularly, the field under the stands shall be leveled and have
enough bearing capacity (the compressive stress shall not be less than 4Kg/cm2), to
ensure the smooth installation of the mast.
Notice: coat pin holes and the surfaces of pins with lubricating grease while installing

pins, and install corresponding shear pins and safety pins when all pins are installed in
place.
4.1.4 Installation of tall stand
a. Firm foundation is required below the tall stand, and the bearing capacity of the
foundation is not less than 0.6Mpa;
b. The tall stand shall be level, the allowable height difference of the bottom surface
of the tall stand is not more than 50mm, and the higher part shall be in the front
(namely, near the crown block side).
4.1.5 Installation of A-frame
First, connect the rear leg (JJ207.03.01.00) of the A-frame (JJ207.03.00) with front
leg (JJ207.03.02.00) by φ140 pins (JJ202.11.07) on the ground (the rear leg is placed on
the ground flatly) (referring to Fig. 2).

Connect major crossbeam (JJ202.11.04.00) with rear leg (JJ207.03.01.00) by
using four φ100 pins (JJ202.11.05) (referring to Fig. 3).

Then connect the tie rod (JJ207.03.03.00) between the front stay bar and the rear
stay bar with φ50 pin (HHPX.50) (referring to Fig. 4).

So far, the installation of the A-frames on the ground is completed, and then the
A-frames shall be integrally lifted on the installed substructure.

Integrally lift the A-frame on the substructure foundation, after the A-frame is
aligned with the corresponding pin hole of the substructure base, connect them by using
φ140×810 pins (JJ202.11.08) (referring to Fig. 6).

4.1.6 Installation of mast
4.1.6.1 Body part
Connect the left and right sections I (JJ202.02.00, JJ202.01.00) of the mast with
the mast supporting seats on the substructure by φ150 leg pins (JJ202.43) pins, and
support the front ends with the low stands (referring to Fig. 7).

Next, install left and right sections II of mast, connect the sections I and II of mast by
bolts M36 (JJ202.49), nuts M36 (GB/T6180) and washers 36 (GB/T93), and support the
sections I and II with low stands (referring to Fig. 8).

Connect the back rigid frame (JJ202.13.00) between the left and right sections II of the
mast by φ50 pins (referring to Fig. 9).

Next, install left and right sections III of the mast, connect the left and right sections
III with left and right sections II of the mast by four φ70 pins (HHSX.70.2), respectively
place two low stands below the left and right sections II for supporting, respectively
place two low stands below the left and right sections III for supporting simultaneously,
connect inclined rod (7) assembly (JJ202.29.00) and rigid frame (I) (JJ202.14.00)
between the left and right sections II of the mast in sequence, and connect inclined rod
(6) assembly ((JJ202.28.00), rigid frame (II) (JJ202.15.00), inclined rod (5) assembly
(JJ202.27.00) and rigid frame (III) (JJ202.16.00) between the left and right sections of
the mast in sequence (referring to Fig. 10).

As per above methods and steps and the parts list of JJ450/45-K15 mast, install the
rest sections, all inclined rods and rigid frame sequentially, and finally install the crown
block at the upper end of the upper section of the mast.
4.1.6.2 Accessory parts
First, install one pair of tong counterweights on the left and right sections III of the
mast respectively, and move the counterweights to a low position (referring to Fig. 11).

Install the deadline anchor as per the mast general drawing (JJ202.00).
Install the ladders on the left and right sides of the mast as per ladder assembly
drawing (JJ202.32.00).
Install the monkey board on the ground as per the monkey board general drawing
(JJ207.01.00).
Lift the crown block end of the mast with a crane, support the section IV of the
mast with a tall stand, then install the monkey board on the mast with Φ60x195 pins
(HHPX.60), the three installation positions for the monkey board depend on the stand
length to be used (referring to Fig. 12).

Lay the traveling block and hook on the traveling block bracket, reeve the wireline
of the traveling system (along the line) (referring to Fig. 13).

Hang the balance frame on the hook as per the lifting device drawing, and then
reeve the wireline of the lifting system (please refer to Fig. 14).

Install the tong sheave as per the positions shown in the general drawing.
Install escaping device as per escaping device drawing.
Install the rest parts and components as per the mast general drawing.
Reeve the wirelines of all sheaves such as tong sheave and auxiliary sheave on the
crown block well, disentangle all wirelines, properly bind and fix the wirelines which
may influence the lifting of the mast.
4.1.7 After the mast is installed, check carefully for missing components, wrongly
installed component, the connecting components at all joints for proper installation, the

safety pins or safety bolts and nuts for proper installation. The mast is installed
completely after all check work is completed.
4.2. Lifting and lowering of mast
4.2.1 General requirements
4.2.1.1 When the mast is mast, the max. wind speed cannot be more than 16.5m/s, the
ambient temperature shall be more than 4℃, and refer to the recommended practice for
low-temperature operation in API Spec 4F specifications, the third edition if the ambient
temperature is lower than 4℃.
4.2.1.2 The power package, winch and drive system etc shall be subjected to idle load
tests to ensure favorable performances and flexible and reliable braking.
4.2.2 Before the mast is lifted formally, check the mast carefully.
4.2.2.1 Check all wirelines for wear, broken wires and rusting etc, and replace the
wirelines reaching the retirement standards with new wirelines.
4.2.2.2 Check connecting pins among all components, the shear pins and the safety pins
for proper installation.
4.2.2.3 Check all bolts and nuts for tightness and the split pins or spring washers for
missing.
4.2.2.4 Check the lifting wireline for correct reeving, the contact position between the
lifting wireline and the sheave for hopping and the fixed end of the wireline for fixation.
4.2.2.5 Each sheave shall be rotated by hand when not being stressed and lubricated
well. The lubricating grease must be NLGI 2 compound lithium base grease.
4.2.2.6 Remove things which are not related to the lifting of the mast on mast, tools
such as spanner and hammer etc, bolts and safety pins etc are not allowed on mast body
to avoid them falling down to injure operators during mast lifting.
4.2.2.7 Overturn the operation console of the monkey board 90°and fix it with pins
(referring to Fig. 15).

4.2.2.8 Check the deadline anchor for reliable fixation on the mast, the deadline for the
reliable fixation on the deadline anchor, and the weight indicator for installation and
commissioning.
4.2.2.9 Check mast buffer hydraulic cylinders, pipelines and all control valves and
connect the hydraulic source. (As per the Operation Manual of Buffer Hydraulic
Cylinder Device System) the piston rod of the buffer hydraulic cylinders must be
stretched to the max. working travel.
※ Notice: Above check work before mast lifting is very important, is the
indispensable procedure for safely lifting the mast to the working position, and is
performed strictly by a specially-assigned person.
4.2.3 Lifting of mast
The lifting of the mast is commanded by a specially-assigned person and can be
performed after the installation quality and the mast are checked strictly before lifting,
so as to ensure personal safety and equipment safety.
Start the power package, run the DW at idle load, and perform the next lifting work
after the power packet and the DW are normal.
Slowly try to lift the mast with the lowest gear of the DW. If the hook load is more
than 220t but the mast is not lifted, stop lifting immediately, check as per clause 4.2.2,
and retry to lift the mast after the problems are solved. When the mast leaves 200mm
away from the tall stand, stop lifting the mast for at least five minutes. Within the five
minutes, check all stressed parts for damage and deformation, welding joints for
cranking and the end of the lifting wireline for abnormal phenomenon. Check the
deadline anchor for firm connection. Slowly put the mast on the tall stand after the
check, try to lift the mast for three times, and formally lift he mast after all parts are

normal.
While lifting the mast, the lifting speed shall be slow and uniform. When the mast
is lifted to the vertical position approximately (about 80°), slow down, disengage the
low-speed clutch of the DW when the mast contacts the piston rod of the buffer
hydraulic cylinder, slowly release the pressure of the hydraulic cylinder, make the mast
stably reach the vertical position by its dead weight, connect the mast with the A-frame
together by U-bolts (JJ202.50.00) (referring to Fig. 16).

4.2.4 Installation of rest accessories
Install the casing stabbing board on the left sections II and III of the mast as per the
Operation Manual of Casing Stabbing Board.
Hang the lifting wireline on the hanger on the mast as per the lifting device
drawing.
Install the escaping device (JJ202.36.00).
4.2.5 Lowering of mast
The mast is lowered after the substructure is lowered in place. Strictly check the
items the same as clause 4.2.2 before the mast is lowered.
First, remove the casing stabbing board. Overturn the operation console of the
monkey board 90°, bind it fixedly, clean all articles influencing the lowering of the mast,

and bind and fix all wirelines influencing the lowering of the mast.
Place the tall stand, small brackets and traveling block bracket as per the positions
during the lifting of the mast.
Hang the balance frame below the hook, remove the end socket rings of the live
ends of two lifting wirelines from the hanger on the mast and connect them onto the
balance frame. Tension the lifting wireline with the gear one of the DW.
Loosen the connecting U-bolts (JJ202.50.00) between the mast and the A-frame
(referring to Fig. 16), operate the mast buffer hydraulic cylinders as per the User's
Manual of ZJ70DBS Drilling Rig so that the piston rods of the left and right hydraulic
cylinders simultaneously pushes the mast forwards, meanwhile, loosen the DW disc
brake and slowly lower the hook. The piston rods of the hydraulic cylinders stop
working after walking the max. travel completely, and slowly lower the mast by the
dead weight of the mast.
Notice:

The disassembly sequence of mast is contrary to the installation


sequence, and the parts installed later must be firstly disassembled.

4.3. Regulation of mast


Observe the front surface and the lateral surface of the mast with theodolite. The
mast is adjusted, so that the wellhead center of the crown block is aligned with the RT
center, the offset between them is smaller than 12mm. Or hang the kelly on the
travelling block and hook combo, so that the center of the kelly is aligned with the RT
center, and the offset shall be also smaller than 12mm (the mast shall be in the vertical
state).
4.3.1 The adjustment of mast in the left-right direction or front-back direction can be
performed through the number of shims at the joints of section I and section II of mast
(loosen the bolts at the joints of section I and section II, lift section II by jack, then add
or reduce the shims for adjustment, referring to Fig.17).
Notice: after adding or reducing 2mm shim each time, the top of mast deviates
about 10mm.

4.3.2 Left-right regulation method of mast: Loosen the left (or right) connection bolts
between section I and section II of mast, set a 50t hydraulic jack below the left or right
mast support seat to jack up the left or right mast support seat as required; align the mast
at left and right directions by adding and reducing shims below one side of the support
seat at the same time. After that, all connection bolts between section I and section II of
mast shall be fastened.
4.3.3 Front-back regulation method of mast: Loosen the front (or back) connection
bolts between section I and section II of mast, set a 50t hydraulic jack below the front or
back mast support seat to jack up the front or back mast support seat as required; align
the mast at front and back directions by adding and reducing shims below one side of
the support seat at the same time. After that, all connection bolts between section I and
section II of mast shall be fastened.
4.3.4 After mast alignment, the bolts and nuts at the joints of section I and section II
shall be tightened again.

5. Lubrication

The rotating parts of the mast shall be filled with oil once before the mast is lifted
and lowered each time. The grease nipples are all M10×1 of GB/T1152-1989 (referring
to Fig. 18).

6. Maintenance

6.1 After the mast is lifted, carefully overturn the operation console of the monkey
board to the working position without impact.
6.2 After the mast is lifted, install the casing stabbing board.
6.3 Prevent the moving components such as traveling block, hook and elevator etc from
colliding the operation console.
6.4 In the use process, periodically check mast legs, inclined and cross tie rods for
bending, deformation or damage, padeyes for extrusion and deformation, the welding
joints of main stressed parts for cranking, pins and safety pins for completeness, and the
bolts for looseness. Take measures for treating abnormal conditions to prevent heavy
loss.
6.5 Before lifting the mast each time, previously coat pins, padeyes and padeye holes
with lubricating grease, and install shear pins and safety pins after the pins are installed.
6.6 During installation and repair, it is forbidden to cut and weld on the main stress
components to prevent the reduction of the mast strength.
6.7 When the mast is operated in winter, refer to the recommended practice on
low-temperature operation in API Spec 4F Specification for Drilling and Well Servicing
Mast and Substructure, the third edition.

6.8 In the installation and storage processes of the lifting wirelines, prevent extrusion,
twist, excessive bend and contact with corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, salts
or mud etc, and lubricate the wirelines periodically.
6.9 Before the mast is installed each time, check the lifting wirelines, replace with new
ones if there are broken wire, damage and excessive rusting etc.
6.10 Before the mast is installed each time, check all sheaves for rotation. The sheaves
shall be rotated flexibly with a hand without blockage, compact and friction, and repair
if there are abnormal phenomena.

7. Mothballing, carrying and transportation of mast

7.1 Before mothballing, remove dust, dirt and water absorbent materials and coat all
padeye pin holes and pins with anti-rust grease.
7.2 The mast shall be placed in dry places with good water drainage and supported away
from the ground to prevent wetted corrosion. When placing the mast, there shall be
enough supporting points and supporting beams below the mast to prevent the mast
from deforming.
7.3 Wirelines (except galvanized wirelines) and accessories shall be coated with
anti-rust grease, packed with plastic cloth and then stored in the dry places. It is
suggested that all pins, bolts, nuts and small parts for field assembly are marked, coated
with anti-rust oil and then stored in boxes.
7.4 When the mast is stored outdoors, cover it with waterproof cloth.
7.5 Prevent the mast from collision, bending, damage to components, damage to fitting
surfaces and damage to protecting layers or paint layers in transportation. Load small
pieces (such as pins, safety pins, bolts, nuts and split pins etc) in box to avoid loss.

Notice:

It is forbidden to haul mast on the ground directly


during transportation!

7.6 All sections of the mast main body and the back crossbeam are all provided with
wireline jackets or lifting lugs, wirelines shall be hung on the wireline jackets or lifting

lugs during lifting, and the protection of the gravity center of the components to the
lifting rope is adequately considered in the design and the manufacture of these wireline
jackets or the lifting lugs.
