PART A-Plan

DNS server configure

1. Aims of the Micro-Project :

To determine the DNS server configuration in Packet Tracer.A DNS
server is a computer server that contains a database of public IP addresses
and their associated hostnames, and in most cases serves to resolve, or
translate, those names to IP addresses as requested.

2. Course Outcomes Addressed :

 Implement Network Layer Protocols.
 Configure IPv6 Network.

3. Proposed Methodology :
A DNS is a protocol within the set of standards for how computers
exchange data on the internet and on many private networks, known as
TCP/IP protocol suite. Its purpose is vital, as it helps convert easy-to-
understand domain names like “howstuffworks.com” into an Internet
Protocol(IP) address, such as 70.42.251.42 that computers use to identify
each other on the network. It is, in short, a system of matching names with
numbers.
Whether you’re accessing a website or sending e-mail, your computer uses
a DNS server to look up the domain name you’re trying to access. The
proper term for this process is DNS name resolution, and you would say
that the DNS server resolves the domain name to the IP address. For
example, when you enter
“www.howstuffworks.com” in your browser, part of the network
connection includes resolving the domain name “howstuffworks.com”
SMT.GEETA D.TATKARE POLYTECHNIC ,GOVE-KOLAD

into an IP address, for Example 70.42.251.42, for HowStuffWorks’ web

servers.
A Domain Name Service(DNS) server resolves host name into IP
addresses although we can access a network host using it’s IP address.DNS
makes it easier to remember. For example ,it’s much easier to typing
http://208.117.229.219 in either case ,you’ll access google website ,but
using domain home is obviously easier.
Now ,before any host can use a DNS server ,we must configure a DNS
server first. For example ,when you type the URL http://www.google.com
into an IP address back the host with the IP address.
