Healthcare in Pakistan: Sanaa Aslam Msc. DPH Student Kings' College London Nov2012

Pakistan has a mixed public-private healthcare system. The public system provides basic and cost-effective oral healthcare interventions through integrated primary care facilities but is under-resourced. Oral health is poor with high rates of untreated decay and periodontal disease. Tobacco use rates are also high contributing to oral cancer prevalence. The private system provides higher quality services but access is limited due to high out of pocket costs. Overall, there is a need to strengthen the public oral healthcare system to improve access and oral health outcomes in Pakistan.
