2. Test for consistency & hence solve:-
a) 5x + 3y + 7z = 4 b) x + 2y – 5z = –9

3. Find the values of k such that the system of equations:-
𝑥 + 𝑘𝑦 + 3𝑧 = 0, 4𝑥 + 3𝑦 + 𝑘𝑧 = 0, 2𝑥 + 𝑦 + 2𝑧 = 0
has non trivial solution.

4. Determine for what values of  and  the following equations have


𝑥 + 𝑦 + 𝑧 = 6, 𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 3𝑧 = 10, 𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 𝑧 = 
(i) no solution
(ii) a unique solution
(iii) Infinite no. of solutions.

5. Determine the values of  and  such that the system of equations

6. Using Gauss-Elimination method, solve the following system of equations:

6𝑥1 – 6𝑥2 + 6𝑥3 + 12𝑥4 = 36
4𝑥1 + 3𝑥2 + 3𝑥3 – 3𝑥4 = –1
2𝑥1 + 2𝑥2 – 𝑥3 + 𝑥4 = 10

(b). x + 2y + 3z = 1
2x + 3y + 2z = 2
3x + 3y + 4z = 1
(c). x + y + z = 6
3x + 3y + 4z = 20
2x + y + 3z = 13

(d). x + 2y + z = 2
3x + y – 2z =2
4x – 3y – z = 3

7. Using Gauss Jordan method solves the following system of equations:-


a) 2x + 4y + z =3 b) 20x + y – 2z = 17

8. Find the values of 𝑎 and 𝑏 for which the equations

are consistent. When will these equations have a unique solution?
