Answer: Actually, all of these factors should be considered when planning treatment
Every person who seeks help for addiction will need a plan of treatment that recognizes his or
her individual characteristics and needs. Age, sexual orientation, and history of abuse are just a
few of the many factors which determine these needs. Other factors might include home
environment, employment status, and gender. Anything that affects the addict may be relevant
to their drug use and needs to be addressed in treatment.

psilocybin
heroin
HPPD is, obviously, caused by hallucinogens. The category of hallucinogens can be further
broken down into three subcategories: psychedelics, dissociatives, and deliriants. Lysergic acid
diethylamide (LSD, or "acid"), methylenedioxy-methylamphetamine (MDMA, or "ecstasy"), and
psilocybin ("magic mushrooms") all belong to the psychedelic subcategory, which is the
subcategory of hallucinogens most likely to cause HPPD, though some dissociatives do as
well, such as phencyclidine (PCP, or "angel dust") and ketamine.
Heroin is classified as an opiate or opioid. Opioids are analgesics (painkillers) rather than
hallucinogens, though heroin can display some hallucinogenic properties, especially when cut
with cocaine or methamphetamine. On its own, however, heroin is highly unlikely to cause
HPPD.
15 This term actually means to induce sleep, but the public often interprets it,
wrongly, to mean any legal drug sometimes used illegally.
drugs
cocaine
alcohol
narcotic
Answer: narcotic
Answer: Opium
Many painkiller drugs are derived from opium, such as morphine and codeine. Heroin
specifically binds with opiate receptors to overstimulate the cell with the neurotransmitter
known as dopamine.
LSD was discovered in Sandoz (now Novartis) research laboratories in Basel, Switzerland. In
1965, Sandoz ceased production of LSD due to protests and controversy.

Other items include paint thinner, glue and nail polish remover.
Narcotics Anonymous, Save Our Selves, and Smart Recovery are all organizations that attempt
to help people obtain sobriety and freedom from addiction. Helping Hands is a group that helps
developmentally delayed preschoolers prepare for public education.
