This document contains a 6 question quiz about oscillations and simple harmonic motion. Question 1 asks about displacement at different times for a periodic motion function. Question 2 asks about the period of small oscillations for a mass attached to a spring. Question 3 gives the equation of motion for a particle and asks about its amplitude, frequency, angular frequency, period, velocity, acceleration, and energies. Question 4 asks about angular frequency and period given a frequency. Question 5 asks about the period of oscillation for a mass attached to a wire on Earth, the Moon, and in space. Question 6 gives information about a block on an inclined plane connected to a spring and asks about where it will stop and its period of oscillation.

QUIZ 1 GELOMBANG

SELASA, 17-9-2019

1. Represent a one-dimesional periodic motion, about the origin by :

x(t)=A cos (2πt/T)
Where A and T are constant, x(t) denotes the displacement from the position of equilibrium at time
t:
a) What is the displacement at times t=0, t=T, t=T/2, t=T/4 and t=3T/4.

2. The body of mass 2 kg is suspended from the end of a spring whose spring constant is
k=4.102 N.m-1.
a) What is the period for small oscillations.
b) Calculate the period for small oscillation of the same mass, when use a bob of a
simple pendulum of length 12 m. (g = 9,8 m.s-1)
3. A 1.75−kg particle moves as function of time as follows:
x = 4cos(1.33t+π/5)
where distance is measured in metres and time in seconds.
(a) What is the amplitude, frequency, angular frequency, and period of this motion?
(b) What is the equation of the velocity of this particle?
(c) What is the equation of the acceleration of this particle?
(d) What is the spring constant?
(e) What are the equations for the potential and kinetic energies of the particles ? What
is the total energy ?

4. If the freqiency of a particular SHM is 50 Hz, what is the angular frequency and the
period ?
5. A 5.0 kg mass is attached to the lower end of a wire of length 1.5 m and is then drawn aside
and released. Calculate the period of oscillation if the experiment is conducted : (a) on the
Earth’s surface, where g=9.8 m.s-2 , (b) on the Moon’s surface, where g=1.6 m.s-2, (c) in a region
of space where there is no gravity.
6. A block of mass 0.2 kg which slides without friction on a θ=30o incline is connected
to the top of the incline by a mass-less spring of relaxed length of 23.75 cm and spring
constant 80 N/m as shown in the following figure.

(a) How far from the top of the incline does the block stop ?
(b) (b) If the block is pulled slightly down the incline and released, what is the period of
the ensuing oscillations ? ( g can be taken as 10 m.s-2)
