Chapter 3 Summary: The Prosecution

This chapter basically describes the American courts ' adversarial system and the role of
the prosecutor in criminal court proceedings in this section. This speaks of being one of the most
important players in American courtrooms being justice. The American justice system is
described as having two parties, the prosecution and the defense.Certain legal considerations,
such as limited resources, lack of motivation from the prosecutors ' office, and concerns
regarding state intervention in family affairs, are also listed. That caught my attention is the
section about prosecutorial bluffing. The chapter mentions that "bluffing occurs when a
prosecutor threatens accused persons with a long list of charges, each with serious penalties"
(Hartley, et. al, 2018).
