INTRODUCTION
• Phulera loco shed is located at a
distance of apporx 55kms from jaipur
and 80 km from ajmer on the jp-A2
section of jaipur division of northern
western railway.

• It handles the train opertion of mg

section between CUR and JP; the
MG diesel shed is located on the
north east side of the phulera station
towards jp end.
WHAT IS DIESEL SHED
Ø Diesel locomotive shed is an industrial – technical setup, whererepair
& maintenance works of diesel of diesel locomotives is carried out,
so as keep loco working properly.
Ø It contributes to increase the operational life of diesel
locomotives
Ø Minimize the line failure
Ø The technical manpower of a shed also increases the efficiency of the
loco.
Ø Diesel shed usually has -;
Ø Berths & plate for loco maintenance
Ø Pits for under frame maintenance.
Ø Heavy cranes, lifting jacks.
Ø Fuel storage & lube oil storage, water treatment plant & testing labs
etc.
Ø Sub-assembly overhauling 7 repairing sections.
Ø Machine shop & welding facilities.

THREEGENERALCLASSOFLOCOMOTIVES
Freight locomotive – For designed with
slower speed, acceleration and have
capacity to pull heavier load as
compared to another.
Ex. (WDG2, WDM4)

Passenger locomotive-- For designed

with high speed, fast acceleration &
light loads. Ex. (WDP2, YDP4)

Shunting locomotive-- For designed

with slower speed, low HP and suitable
for shunting purpose onl.
Ex. (WDS4, WDS6)
FUEL INJECTION PUMP

Ø To ensure performance of activities that will result in property

injection of fuel free from the leakage and other fault.

1. To raise the fuel oil pressure to a valve which will efficiently atomize the fuel.

2. To supply the fuel to the injection nozzle in response to governor demand.

3. To time the delivery of the fuel at a definite point in engine

cylinder and within a limit number of degees of engine crank sahft rotation.

fuel injection pump
• the fuel injection pump is
of the constant stroke,
lapped plunge types.
• it is operated from a
camshaft through an
adjustable crosshead in
the fuel pump support.
• supply the fuel to the
nozzle in response to
governor demand.
Turbo Supercharger
It is used increase the amount
of air pushed into cylinder.
Pressure of air is 3-6 kg/cm2
It gives a 50% increase in
engine power.
Advantage is that it gives more
power with no increase in fuel
cost because it uses exhaust gas
as driving power.
It also increase the air pressure,
better ignition & efficiency.
CAUSES OF TURBO
CHARGER
Intermediate casing, turbine
casing, nozzle failure.
BRAKES SYSTEM
Ø There are 4 types of
brakes are use in indian
loco

1. Air brakes system

2. Vaccum brake system

3. Dyanamic brake system

4. Hand brake system

LOCO BRAKE SYSTEM
• Loco brake system is provided to stop Locomotive whenever
it runs as ligh engine.

• It is purely air brake system known as independent brake

system.

• SA-9 valve handle is to kept narmally in relese position.

• MR air is always available at valve.

SA-9 BRAKE SYSTEM
• SA-9 is situated on all control with three positions

1. Released position

2. application position

3. quick release position

SPECIAL PLANT
To provide pollution free environment, an ETP is
installed.
Various effluents emitted from diesel shed are passed
through the plant.
Pollution free water is collected & Water is used for non
drinking purposes – gardening & washing of the
locomotives.
