sChistosomiasis Control Program
• In 2000, the Philippines’ Department
of Health adopted mass treatment as
its schistosomiasis control strategy
with the aim of disease elimination. Schistosoma japonicum, male

in barangays with prevalence ≥ 15%

• Worked in coordination with the blood drive
coordinating center of NCR which is responsible
for blood drive assistance hotline and scheduling

• Establishment of the clearing house as 24 hour
blood assistance center blood stock monitoring

sharing of blood resources and monitoring of
blood stock levels in different hospitals.
• Provided subsidy for blood bank supplies and
materials and other operating expenses, blood
bank equipment, repair and operation

• Coordination with the Department of Social
Welfare and Development (DWSD) brought
together representatives from the regional
and central offices of both agencies to
revisit policies and be updated on the latest
developments that are most beneficial to
covered beneficiaries under the Indigent
Program.

visible means of income, or whose income is
insufficient for family subsistence, as
identified by the Department of Social
Welfare and Development (DSWD), based
on specific criteria.

• 3.4 M lactating women also benefited the
program
• 759, 800 preschools and school children,
a n d 8 7 , 5 0 0 p re g n a nt wo m e n w e re
provided with supplementary feeding
• 200,700 mothers were also provided with
nutrition classes under the program

through a certification/recognition program.

main strategy is certification of health
