Description/Intended Use:

UNICO PowerSpinrMcentrifugesare available with fixed and

variable speedcontrol and timers; are specially designedto run for
years of demandinglaboratory work in clinical labs, physician and
veterinary practicesas well as in any chemical, industrial or
biological labs where separationfor blood or other materials is
required.

RPM. The PowerSpinLX (CS56)is 6 placevariablespeedmodel(8
placerotor is optional).The nominalspeedis 3,400RPM for rnodel
FX and4,000rpm for LX.

Load Balance:

Always make sure that the load is balancd before

operating the instrument.

It is very importantthat testtubeswith equalloadsareplaced

oppositeeachother in the rotor. {so, when sp$rung a sihgle
specirnentube,anotherspecimentube of the samesizefil|ed with
watermustbe installeddirectly acrossfrom the spedmeiltubeto
maintainbalance.If the centfifu$eis not properlybalanced,damage
 could occur. If excessivenoise or vibration is noticed during a run,
stop the centrifuge and recheck the balance.

Maintenance:

This centrifuge is designedto be relatively maintenancefree. The

brushlesstype motor has permanently sealedbearingsso oiling is
not necessary.The rotor chamberand cover can be disinfectedwith a
mild solution of bleach or other disinfecting liquid and allowed to
dry. The inner rotor chamberis stainlesssteel and can withstand
harsh disinfectants. Do not drench or immersethe unit in any liquid!
Be sureto disconnecttho power before attemptingto clean.

Calibration:

It is recommendedthat your centrifuge's RPM be calibrated at least

every 6 months. This period is suggestedby both the FDA and
C.L.I.A. guidelines. Simply checkthe RPM using a stroboscopeor
tachometerand the small circular window in the lid.

Electrical Shock Hazard:

Do not attempt to operatethis instrument near water or liquid spill.

Unplug the unit before cleaning or repairing. Periodically check the
condition of the power cord for cuts or damage.Do not operatewith
. a damagedcord.

Biohazard:

If a tube breaks,a biologicalhazard may exist. Unplug the

instrument.Clean using approvedlaboratory procedures.Always
wear the proper protective clothing and gloves. Use a suitable
disinfectant and disposeof the sampleproperly. Refer to the
guidelinesset forth by OSHA, CLIA, etc.
Service:

If you feel that your centrifuge needsfactory service,pleasecall us

and speakto a customerservice representativeto determinethe
nature of the problem. Simple problems may be resolvableover the
telephone.If the instrument needsto be returned to UNICO, a R.G.A.
(return goods authorization)number will be issued.Pleasereference
the R.G.A. number on the paperwork packedwith the instrument,
and on the outside of the carton.
REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS MADE TO THE
CENTRIFUGE BY AI\ UNAUTORIZED PARTY WILL VOID
THE WARRANTY.

Problem Solving:

1. Cenkifuge doesnot start

a) check to determineif centrifuge is plugged in.

b) check that timer has been set.

c) check that lid is closed and latched.

d) check that Power rocker switch in rear of unit is in the

"on" position.

e) check that the Power indicator light (on front panel) is

lit. A failure of the power light to illuminate could
indicate a need for a new fuse when the unit is properly I
plugged in, turned on and the lid closed.
)
2. Excessivenoise when running. If the noise is irregular or
different in tone, be sure that there is no paper or debris in
the rotor or rotor chamber.Make sure that the load is
balanced.

3. Indicator light fails to light.

a) Unit is not turned on.
b) Lamp needsto be replaced
 c) Fuseis blown.

4. FuseReplacement
Caution: DISCONNECT
THEPOWERCORDBEFORE
REPLACING FUSE.

Follow theprocedures
belowto replacethe fuse:

a) Unplug the power cord. Tum the on/off switch to

"off'
b) Removethe powercord from thepowerinlet on the
backof,thecentrifuge.
c) Locatethe fuseholder.The fuseholderis a part of the
powerinlet.

d) Use a Philip type screwdriverto takethe snap-intype

holder cover off. Removethe blown fuseandreplace
it with the sametype andratingfusewhich is:

e) Put the snap-infuseholderback.

 5. Intermittent motor operation,or no operation.
Call your service department.If it is under warranty,
contactLTNICO(800-538-9776)for possiblemotor
replacement.

This instrument is warranted againstdefectsin materials and

workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of shipment
