I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of: direct and
indirect signals used by the speaker; differentiate direct and
indirect speech; and give examples of direct and indirect
speech.
B. Performance Standards The learner transfer learning by creating variety of activities
featuring correct usage of direct and indirect speech in a
sentence.

IV. PROCEDURES

A. Reviewing previous lesson or - Photo Essay


presenting the new lesson - Personal Conflicts include discrimanation,
bullying, intimadation and bullying
B. Establishing a purpose for the Show pictures with direct and indirect signals. Guide
lesson students' answers.
C. Presenting examples/instances *Show a video about direct and indirect speech*
of the new lesson After watching the video, ask the students what the
video is all about.
Let the students answer what they have observed on
the video.

DIRECT SPEECH
Direct speech repeats, or quotes, the exact words
spoken. When we use direct speech in writing, we
place the words spoken between quotation marks (" ")
and there is no change in these words.

INDIRECT SPEECH
Reported or indirect speech is usually used to talk
about the past, so we normally change the tense of the
words spoken. We use reporting verbs like 'say', 'tell',
'ask', and we may use the word 'that' to introduce the
reported words. Inverted commas are not used.

Example:
Direct speech: My sister said, “I can see him.”
Indirect speech: My sister said that she could see him.
D. Discussing the concepts and The teacher will give more examples that will be written
practicing new skill # 1 on the blackboard and she will let the students analyze
the examples give.

Here are the examples:


1. John said, “I want to eat ice cream.” – Direct Speech
John said that he wanted to eat ice cream. – Indirect
Speech

2. Ana says to John, “I like banana and mango.” –


Direct Speech
Ana tells to JOhn that she likes banana and mango. –
Indirect Speech

3. John and Ana said, “We don’t want to go to school.”


– Direct Speech
John and Ana said that they didn’t want to go to school.

E. Discussing the concepts and Directions: Students will pick one piece of coupon bond
practicing new skill # 2 on the table. They will read what is written on the paper
and they will let any of their classmates change the
speech into either direct or indirect speech.
He said, “I am ill.”

My sister said, “I love swimming.”

Allan said, “I am going to school.”

He said that he wanted to meet my parents.

She said that she was listening to music.

He said that he needed your help.


F. Developing Mastery (Leads to Directions: Students will be divided into four (4). Each

3. Claire says, “I like your book.”
4. James said, “I am playing Mobile Legends.”
5. Ms. Jane said to Mark, “I write a letter.”
6. He said that Jack killed a giant that day.
7. He said that he was a basketball player.
8. I shouted to them to let me do my work.
9. He swore that he was innocent.
10. He told that he worked in a small company.

J. Additional activities for Directions: Make 5 sentences each for Direct Speech
application or remediation and Indirect Speech. Write your examples in your
assigment notebook.
