The purpose of the SOP “Station Auxiliary Cooling Water Pump” Operation is to train and guide

operating personnel for safe, right & correct procedures & optimum performance of the system.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Head (Operation) is responsible for implementation of this SOP so as to ensure safe and efficient
operation of the system.
SAFETY:
1. Ensure PTW (Permit To Work) return.
2. LOTO removed.
3. Ensure proper housekeeping.
4. Barricades and coupling guards in position.
5. Equip with PPE’s: Safety Helmet, Electrical Gloves, Ear Plugs / Muff, Safety Shoes, Safety
Goggles etc.

CHECKS BEFORE START UP:


1. Ensure that main power supply and control power supply is available.
2. Emergency push button is in released condition.
3. Electrical supply available to valves.
4. Suction Header Manual isolation valve, instrument impulse line Manual isolation valve should
be in open condition.
5. All drains should be in closed condition.
6. Check oil level ( >50%) & Coupling of Motor and Pump should be ok.
7. Any one CWP or CWCF running.
8. Suction line (MOV) should be in fully Opened condition & check suction pressure ( >1.5 kg/cm2).
9. Suction & Discharge Header line vent should be in Open condition.
10. Recirculation line (MOV) and Returning line (MIV) should be in Partial Open condition.
11. Discharge valve should be closed condition.

PERMISSIVE FOR START UP:


1. Electric switchgear OK.
2. ACW Pump MCC Not Disturbed.
3. Ready to start.
4. ACW Pump in remote.
5. Any one CWP or CWCF running.
6. Suction valve full open & open feedback is available in control panel ( 10 sec delay).
7. ACW Suction HDR Pressure (>1.5 kg/cm2) adequate.
8. Discharge valve closed OR Standby selected.

OPERATING PROCEDURE:
1. Start Station ACW Pump from control desk after ensuring all line up.
2. Ensure the discharge valve opens fully on AUTO. Open it manually, if it fails to open.
3. Select other pump as standby from DCS & ensure the opening of its discharge v/v in auto.
4. Close all the vents by ensuring that water is coming from them.
CHECKS DURING RUNNING:
1. Check for abnormal noise, if any.
2. Check for any abnormal vibration.
3. Check for oil & water leakages, if any.
4. Check the Direction of Motor.

INTERLOCKS:
1. Auto start of stand by pump after 5 sec at discharge valve close of running pump.
2. Auto start of stand by pump when discharge pressure < 1.2 kg/cm2 & second pump off condition.
PROTECTIONS AVAILABLE:
1. Pump ON & discharge valve not open > 100 sec.
2. Suction valve close.
3. All unit CWP & all CWCF are off.
SHUTDOWN:
1. Get the clearance from SIC.
2. Remove auto standby.
3. Start the available standby Station ACW Pump as per the SOP.
4. Switch OFF the Station ACW Pump from the control desk.

DO’S:
1. Ensure proper venting in the operating line.
2. Ensure no water leakage is present.

DON’TS:
1. Operate the pump with suction valve in close condition.
2. Run the pump for longer time with discharge valve in close condition.
3. Bypass any interlock and protection of Station ACWP at any time.
