Introduction
Audio compression is a signal processing operation that reduces the volume of loud
sounds or amplifies quiet sounds thus reducing or compressing an audio signal's
dynamic range. Compression is commonly used in sound recording and reproduction,
broadcasting, live sound reinforcement and in some instrument amplifiers.
Here, we present a simple compressor circuit which is able to compress the
dynamic range of any analog audio signal. The specific circuit does not amplify quiet
sounds but it just compresses loud sounds.
The simple compressor-limiter is an analog circuit and can be used to process only
analog audio. It can be adjusted to change the way it affect sounds through two
potentiometers.  It uses soft compression for middle-loudness sounds and hard-
compression for very loud sounds, thus acting as a limiter for very loud sounds.
Basically, when acting as a limiter, the circuit uses high ratio compression and fast
attack time.
The simple compressor – limiter, was actually designed to be used in FM radio
broadcasting, where fast attack time is crucial because the modulation index of
any FM transmitter must be kept below a certain limit, otherwise some
interference may occur to neighbor radio channels.

Components:
The following are the components that have been used in the project:

 Resistors
 Diodes
 Capacitor
 BC547 B Transistor
Circuit Diagram:
WORKING :
This mini audio compressor circuit use only one active component
Transistor1. The audio signal goes through Capacitor 1, Resistor 1, Diode 1,
Capacitor 2, Resistor 3. Still a part of audio signal charge the Diode 3/Diode
4 detector and creates a control voltage for Transistor 1.
The fading time depends on C4 and R5. With an audio input variation of
50dB, the output signal get is +-3dB. You can use this audio compressor
circuit in a transmitter.
Once an input signal is applied to the circuit ,the audio signal will pass
through the first capacitor and then R1 and then D1 ,C2 ,R3. The circuit is
going to compress the signal in such a way that reduces the volume of loud
sounds or amplifies quiet sounds thus reducing or compressing an audio
signal's dynamic range . This circuit will only compress louder sounds and not
amplify quieter sounds.

Applications:

Conclusion:
In the end we can say that audio compression is basically used for two main
purposes. 1. To compress louder sounds and reduce the unwanted noise and 2.
To amplify the smaller or quieter sounds. The above circuit is going to do
just that . The above circuit will only reduce the louder sounds and not
amplify the quieter ones.
