CEG 3011C : CONSOLIDATION TEST

Spring 2020

SCHEDULE
Final report due: Thursday, 04/02/2020. Long-form individual formal report (Type II-i)

GENERAL EXPERIMENT
A clay sample is incrementally loaded to study the time-rate of deformation properties and
the load-deformation properties for the range of applied loads.

DATA ACQUISITION
 Determine all initial physical properties and quantities (weight, volume, water
content, Atterberg limits, Soil description and classification)
 Acquire deformation data at the beginning and end of each pressure increment.
 Acquire complete deformation data as a function of time for one pressure increment
 Acquire load information for each deformation reading.
 Data will be acquired using dial indicator readings as follows:
1. Dial readings at the start and end of each load increment
2. Five pressure increments: 0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 6 tsf
3. 3 unloading steps: 4, 2, and 1 tsf
4. 3rd day perform the 8-hr continuous time-rate measurements
