Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

PowerPoint is a great tool to support learning in any classroom. In this lesson we will use PowerPoint to
create E-Books to share understanding of numbers. In PowerPoint audio can be added to guide students
through the book if a student is not able to read. Pictures can be added on the slides to represent content
being taught.

Lesson idea implementation:

In the classroom I will use the E-Book that was created to guide the students in learning how to count and
recognize a number in print. The students will participate as the E-book automatically plays and helps the
children count the number of objects that the number represents. The students will watch and practice
counting for 2 run throughs. The students will then be asked to create their own “How Many books?”.
They will get the chance to present their books to the class and I will assess the students that they
numbers that they have written matches the quantity of items they have drawn. The students who wish not
to create an E-Book can choose to show their work using physical items and write in print their numbers. Feed
back will be given to those who did not correctly represent the number they chose. As a class we will help the
student correct the mistake. The numbers that the students represent will become larger. The students will
also learn how to write numbers past 10 by combining two numbers.

Reflective Practice:
Using E-Books as a tool to teach numbers will bring to the students both a visual and audio recording of the

number that is being represented. Having audio with visuals will help those students that might not be able to
see small print, those who can not see they will be able to hear the students count out loud. To further
extend the lesson we can begin introducing the combination of more than one number together to create
new numbers. We can also begin counting larger quantities. Other tools that can be used could be Game apps
that have counting games and identifying quantities.
