SHEETS
7. Dimensioning must be done horizontally and in print.
REQUIREMENTS: A2 drawing paper
1.2 Perform the necessary calculations and draw a shear force diagram to a (7)
suitable scale.
1.3 Perform the necessary calculations and draw a bending moment diagram (7)
to a suitable scale.
1.4 State the maximum values of shear force and bending moment (2)
1.5 Select a suitable hot rolled I-section with parallel flanges to support the (3)
load, given an allowable stress of 165MPa

FIGURE 3
A concrete slab is resting on a round concrete column. The column centre is 1 500 mm from the
right-hand edge of the slab, which forms a balcony. A 220 mm face-brick wall is built at the edge
of the cantilever slab, 15 mm from the edge, to form a plinth. Draw, to scale 1 : 10, a vertical
longitudinal cross section through part of the slab, the 1 500 mm long cantilever slab, the column
and the face-brick wall. Show at least 500 mm of the slab on the opposite side of the column
and the cantilever.
Use and include the details below and label the drawing correctly.
Concrete 300 mm thick, with 6Y16, main reinforcement per meter and 6Y10
slab shear reinforcement, per meter, and 6R12 compression reinforcement (6)
per meter, with 10 mm mild-steel binders, at 200 mm c/c. The first
binder starts at the column
Cantilever 300 mm thick, with 6Y16, tension reinforcement per meter, 6Y16 shear
slab reinforcing per meter and 6R10 compression reinforcement per meter (6)
with 10 mm binders at 150 mm c/c
Floor 300 mm × 300 mm ceramic tiles fixed with tile cement (4)
finishing
Show at least 500 mm of the concrete column at the bottom of the slab. [22]
FIGURE 4 below shows a cross-section profile through a concrete structure which [18]
include; a stair case, slab, pad-foundation with concrete column and an edge-beam.
Copy this figure, (not to scale), on the drawing page and insert/add the steel
reinforcement. Use the bar schedule below, to label and steel code the different
reinforcements. All tension reinforcements are high-yield steel (Y)
All compression steel are soft-mild steel (R)
