Factors Influencing The Change in Behavior of Children On Viewing Cartoon Programs - A Study
METHODOLOGY: The area chosen for study was Salem. Multi stage sampling technique was
employed to select the 1120 sample respondents from the four zones of Salem Corporation.
In the present study, an extensive use of both primary and secondary data was collected in order
to achieve the objectives of this study. For collecting primary data, field survey technique was
undertaken in the study area with the help of questionnaire and interview schedule. First-hand
information pertaining to the cartoon channels viewed, nature of cartoon programs preferred the
most, the children’s cartoon viewing behavior from the children and parents perspective, the
psychological and physical problems faced by the children while watching cartoons in the study
area, were collected from one thousand and one hundred and twenty (1120) sample respondents.
The secondary data pertaining to the study was obtained from the database maintained by the
Chief Educational office and latest information were obtained from Library resources and Net
resources.
FINDINGS:
The factors, respondents age (years), gender, siblings, standard, board, medium and time spent
for watching television have a significant relationship with the change in their behaviour on
viewing cartoons. But, the factor program type preferred has insignificant relationship with the
change in their behaviour on viewing cartoons.
REFLECTIVE QUESTIONS:
3.) Insights/Realizations
The journal made me realized that to minimize the potential negative effects of television,
it’s important to understand and to know first the contents of the cartoons before you let a
child watch it and even if it is a cartoon it doesn’t mean that it is educational or not real at
all. What children see, even if it is real or not can imitate whatever he or she saw.
