ABSTRACT
This study intents to find out whether the impacts of violent cartoons on
the behavior of children are positive or negative. The data for this paper are
gathered by interviewing parents that have children aging 3-9 years old the
data gathered has shown that violent cartoons especially the one similar to
Tom and Jerry and Oggy & the Cockroaches have a negative effect on
children. Since they tend to imitate the bad behaviors of the cartoon
characters, we have come to a conclusion that children should not be
allowed to frequently watch violent cartoons and the parents should place a
limit on how long children should be allowed in front of the television.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Cartoons have been a part of the lives of children all over the world. It has various
impacts on a children behavior, speech, how they interact and how they act. This study
aims to specifically investigate the impacts of cartoons, towards the behavior of young
children. Since there are both educational cartoons and violent cartoons. We want to
find out, specifically, what impacts can violent cartoons have on the way children
behave.

This general intent of this study is to know the impacts of violent cartoons
towards the behavior of the children with the focus of finding out whether the
impacts are positive or negative.
This study will mainly identify the various effects of cartoons towards children
and find out the reactions of children towards being limited in watching cartoons.
This study will include three parents who have children aging 3-9 years old.
This paper will be conducted within Bago City and only targeted towards
parents/siblings or people looking after children with ages 3-9 years old.

Imitate.Is defined by Merriam Webster’s Dictionary as a term meaning to follow as a pattern, model or an
example.
Influence.Is defined by Oxford Languages as the capacity to have an effect on the character,
development or behavior of someone or something.
Intellectual Development.Is defined by Encyclopedia.com as the changes that occur as a result of growth
and experience in a person’s capacities for thinking, reasoning, relating, judging, conceptualizing, etc. In
particular it concerns such changes in children.
Phenomological.Is defined by as a form of qualitative research that focuses on the study of an individual’s
lived experiences with the world.
Programs.Is defined by Oxford Languages as a presentation or item television or radio, especially one
broadcast regularly between stated times.

behaving aggressively and also make him/her more susceptible to feeling afraid of dark
or lonely spaces, among other negative effect. Cartoons often encourage unhealthy
behavior such as violence, sexual behavior, taking justice into one’s own hands,
critically evaluating them can lead to adopting the unhelpful attitudes and tendencies
they promote. Children may not be able to differentiate between advertisement and
programs. This makes them believe the claims of the advertisers. They may feel that
they are being deprived if their parents do not buy a certain product.

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research design, research type, instrument and the
data gathering procedures employed in this phenomological study.
Research Design
This qualitative research uses phenomological research design to gather
data. This approach will provide a complete understanding of the impacts of violent
cartoons towards children.
We conducted the interview with 3 respondents that are parents with children
aging 3-9 years old. All three respondents are female and the biological mother of the
kids. The interview was recorded by taking a video and writing down notes.
Research Instrument
The interviews are conducted to find out the changes in the behavior of
children caused by violent cartoons. The responds of the respondents are translated
and interpreted to gather data. Finally, the data were analyzed, summarized and
concluded to answer the research questions.

CHAPTER 4
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the data gathered and discussion. It is shown here the
impacts watching of violent cartoons towards children with ages 3-9 years old. All the
data gathered will provide this study reliable and relevant information for the readers. By
analyzing the results, the researches will be able to identify whether the impacts of
cartoons towards children are positive or negative. The table below properly presents
the responses and its translations, the number of respondents and the interpretation of
the respondents answers.

CHAPTER 5
SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the result of the study, the following are the summarized conclusions and
recommendations;
1. According to parents, the impacts of watching violets cartoons have caused their
children to become more talkative, hyperactive.
2. The violent cartoons that most kids watch are; Tom and Jerry, Peppa Pig, and
The Oggy & the Cockroaches.
3. Based on the interview, most parents that have kids watching cartoons like Tom
and Jerry, think that violent cartoons have a negative effects on kids since they
imitate the violent actions of the characters and learning bad habits.
4. According to parent with a kid that watches Peppa Pig, there are positive effects,
like the thinking skills of their kids becoming advance and they can easily catch
up on lessons.
5. It was discovered that children have become too captivated with cartoons that
when parents try to stop them, the kids would complain, throw tantrum and try
hide under blankets in order to secretly watch cartoons.
6. Parents expressed that their kids, who were quiet or well behaved have now
been influenced by cartoons to become hyper and mischievous.
7. It also important that kids spend time playing outside and be active instead of
staying in front of the television for long hours.
8. It is recommended that when watching cartoons, it is important for parents to
place a limit for their children, around 20min-2hours, so that the effects of
radiation wont be excessive to the eyes of the kids.
