Content Standard
The learners demonstrates understanding of 20 th century music styles and characteristic features.

Performance Standard:
The learners creates musical pieces using particular style/s of the 20 th century

I. OBJECTIVES
1. Describe distinctive musical elements of given pieces in 20 th Century Styles;
2. Discuss the historical and cultural background of Primitivism, Neo-Classicism and Nationalism in
Music
3. Name the notable painters and composers of Primitivism, Neo-Classicism and Nationalism in
music
4. Listen carefully to selections of musical styles
Appreciate the music of work of Bela Bartok, Sergei Prokofieff and Francis Poulenc.

II. Subject Matter


A. Topic: 20th Century Musical Styles
Sub Topic: Prmitivism, Neo – Classicism, and Nationalism

B. Materials: Flash drive, laptop, mobile phones, Visual arts pictures of Bela Bartok, Sergei Prokofieff,
and Francis Poulenc, charts of music scores
C. Reference: Horizons Music and Arts Appreciation for Young Filipinos Grade 10 LM – Pages 11-17
D. Conceptualization and Localization of Curriculum.

III. Lesson Proper

1. Review: Concepts on previous lessons on Expressionistic music.
2. Motivation: use the displayed pictures orposters of the paintings of Expressionist painter
Georges Seurat.
3. Singing the Bilong-Bilong folksong.

1. How did you find singing our very own song using the native tongue dialect?
2. Do you know of a composerwho could compose good music in your locality?
3. What are the different musical styles do you already know?
C. Abstraction
 Definition of Technical Terms
 Other Musical Style ( Primitivism, Folk Music, and Nationalistic Music)
D. Application
1. What group of people inspired many of Bartok’s composition?
2. Who is Bela Bartok? Sergei Prokofieff, and Francis Poulenc?
3. What are the characteristics of the music of Bela Bartok, Sergie Prokofieff, and Francis Poulenc?
4. What concept have you realized in today’s lesson?
E. Evaluation
Listening Test: Listen carefully to each excerpt and be able to recognize the distinct musical style of
each composer.
IV. Agreement:
Research on the life and works of the following composers: Georges Auric, Louis Durey, Arthur
Honegger, Darius Milhaud, and Germaine Tailleferre.
