During my college years as the Wing Commander of the Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC), I
faced a dilemma between my upperclassman and mates. I, together with my mates and underclassmen,
am conducting a meeting every week to plan all the activities that will take place during Saturday’s ROTC
class. However, my upperclassman who volunteered to oversee us changed many things in our plan. In
effect, we cannot work effectively. Moreover, the morale of my troops are declining because the
changes that have been made happens almost every Saturday. It seems to them that their efforts to
make our plans in order and feasible are being put in vain.
In actuality, it is really okay for my mates for the changes to occur. However, it should be done
before Saturday—not on the day of the said planned activities. Moreover, my upperclassman is present
in the office during the said meetings but did not raised any concerns. Furthermore, he is doing nothing
but watching movies at that time. In consequence, the gap between my upperclassman and mates is
getting bigger.
In my case, I remained to be unbiased to both parties—weighing every options to solve this problem
in order to unite the corps. Looking at each perspective, I have decided to talk to my mates first about
their concerns to this upperclassman. In return, they agreed for me to become the voice of their
concerns.
At first, I am reluctant to ask my upperclassman for we are mandated as a cadet that we should
always follow orders before complaining things. However, I felt the need to speak up because there is
no one to volunteer. Moreover, I believe this system—to follow before to complain—is not always
applicable. Indeed, I told my upperclassman about our concerns.
With this regard, I have realized that not all present laws are applicable to every situation.
Moreover, one must have a courage to speak up when things go south. Additionally, we should utilize
our communication skills for us to be efficient and effective in every duty that we do. Indeed, this
dilemma made me aware about how relationship is important in keeping the organization intact.
2. What attributes, life experiences, unique perspectives, and/or special talents do you possess
that would contribute to the classroom, student body, and/or Air Force Academy? (400 to 500
words, 3000 characters max) You must answer this question.
As a Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) cadet, I have tried to be handled with positive
leadership by my upperclassmen. In effect, I have implemented it during my term as a Wing
Commander. This proves that maltreatment is not the key to make your underclassmen follow
you. Indeed, I believe that as a leader we should mold our men to follow out of respect and not
out of fear. On the other hand, I have the capacity to influence other people by using my
communication skills. Moreover, I have the initiative to help an organization with my best effort
in any way I can. Definitely, I see myself in the Air Force Academy doing something productive
with the means of positive leadership.
Almost every day in the corps, we prove ourselves to be worthy to the privileges that the
upperclassmen have given us. Whenever there is an offense, we compensated it with sweat and
tears but not with blood or haze. In return, I was being transformed to become a competent
leader with character. During my term, I have done a lot of things that my upperclassmen have
not thought or accomplished during their time. Some of these are the following:
-organizing our softcopy and hardcopy files which dates back from 1990’s
-creating an online database for our ROTC lectures
-creating a list of ROTC officer graduates with their basic information
-having a campaign in some senior high school about citizenship
-having a close tie with the ROTC Alumni
This created a path for me to exercise my leadership. In effect, the corps maintained its standard
as one of the top performing ROTC in the Philippines.
As an upperclassman, I always look upon the welfare of my men. A good example is when my
underclassmen are doing some exercises as punishment for their offenses. I always make sure
that I have released them in the office earlier so that they will not be late in their class.
Moreover, I always give rationale after giving a punishment for them to boost their morale.
Furthermore, I am constantly checking their grades in order to know if they have deficiency in
any of their classes so that I can assess how to help them academically.
Air Force Academy is a big institution compared to the ROTC in college that I have been into.
However, I believe to the best of my ability that I have the capacity to help the academy achieve
its full potential. Through my communication skills, I know that I can unite both the non-
international and international cadets in the academy if there is a rift because of their
differences in culture. With the leadership that I have acquired, I am confident to enter the
academy bearing the name of my country.
3. Please provide any additional information or background you believe will be of assistance in
evaluating your application. (400 to 500 words, 3000 characters max)
Throughout my life, I envisioned myself as one who is responsible for making my country
achieve its full potential. Moreover, I have a unique perspective on how to view life
microscopically and macroscopically. I am a man who based my actions and decisions through
logical thinking with emphatic view. Indeed, I can be a positive catalyst of advancement which
uses all aspects of knowledge and observation for the betterment of my country.
As a reader, I think I have read over 100 novels which consist of topics about science,
philosophy, history and conspiracy. In effect, my mind opened to a much wider scope of
knowledge and wisdom. I learned to observe things differently from what is common. With this
regard, a plan formed in my mind which I want to accomplish during my adult years. Some of
this plans are the following:
-publishing a novel about how to make a child a champion with a heart
-utilizing the midbrain activation
-utilizing the abacus in preschool and elementary
-utilizing the nuclear power plant that is already present in the country
-minimizing or eradicating terrorism in the country
-improving the agriculture system in the country
-creating an academy for individual that has high IQ
Many people think that this is futile for I am just a student as of now. However, I have great faith
in me that I can accomplish these things.
Using the internet, I always conduct research on scientific and conspiratorial topics.
Moreover, I am more interested in quantum physics for science is forwarding to that motion.
Persons like Albert Einstein and the Egyptians amazed me a lot for they have contributed many
essential things for the advancement of our technology. Furthermore, I wanted to visit the Large
Hadron Collider at CERN, the European Organizatiovvn for Nuclear Research for me to have a
more understanding in quantum physics. Lastly, I want to be in the Air Force Academy for I
believe that I can be nurtured there better for they have a lot of courses to offer especially
about quantum-based transportation.
In the long run, our world will change into much more technologically advance society. Lots of
things in life will be much more complicated. Even though I have a strong stand in the
advancement of science, I still hope that one would not forget about his/her humanity. With
that, I want to improve myself for me to help my country for me to help the world.
