Hagia Sophia, The Most Dynamic Place

After the demise of the Western Roman Empire, The Byzantine Empire came into map of
international arena. They left their legacy religiously and the evolution turned them into
cathedral Christians. In the 6th century, the grand Church called Hagia Sophia to build. The
Church seemed the place of Holy wisdom and a spirit of the Maleficent Empire. The architect,
scenery, and the spirituality around makes it magical. It has very appropriate length and width
and an overwhelming view of the architect makes eyes feel soothing and a relaxing freshness. It
is an excellent example of a byzantine architect that remained praised throughout history.
Additionally, beauty proved not only externally but internally a masterpiece. Richard Winston in
his book “Hagia Sophia” quoted the Byzantine poet and said, “whoever raises his eyes to the
beauteous firmament of the roof, scare dare to gaze on its rounded expanses sprinkled with the
stars of heaven, but turns to the fresh green marble below, seeming at it were to see the flower-
bordered streams of Thessaly…” tells the eternal beauty of architect. The poet Paul Silentiary
quoted the Church parallel to Pharos. Nonetheless, this church was devoted to emperor Justinian
in the sixth century.

It remained state church of Roman Empire from 532 till 537. It was a personification of
Byzantine Architect. Two Geometers, Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles designed the
building. Right after the collapse of Constantinople to Osmania Khilafat in the 15 th century, the
grand Church converted into Mosque by the Mehmed II. All the belonging and symbols of
Christianity removed and demolished after which it converted into a mosque. Furthermore, the
Islamic Features the Mimber, Minaars and Mehraabs were added into the look. It became an
inspiration for Architect for all of the religious places as well as for ordinary buildings. The Blue
Mosque of Istanbul is also built with the inspiration of Hagia Sophia. The Number of Islamic
architects of Osmania Khilafat monuments shows the inspiration in their work. This remained a
mosque until 1931. With the emergence of Modern Day Turkey, Mustafa Kamal Pasha declared
the mosques a museum in 1935. Between the years of 1931-35, it remained closed and reopened
with changed status. According to the statistic of the Turkish tourism ministry, Istambul
remained the most attractive place for tourists. In which Hagia Sophia was at the top in 2015-16.
An estimate tells that nearly 3.47 million people visited Hagia Sophia only in 2015.

Latest by, the recent development in Modern Day Turkey, the Council of State declared Null and
Void the decision of 1934’s cabinet and ordered to restore the significance of Mosque. Hagia
Sophia Turkish Ayasofya, the former Istanbul museum opened for Muslims for Prayer. Turkish
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ordered to open the mosque for Muslims. On Friday 24, 2020 it
got open and the president attended the session there. Almost 1000 people were allowed to say
prayer theirs along with keeping tight security checks. According to President, almost 3.5 million
people attended the sermon there. During the Jumma Prayer, President Erdogan recited a verse
from the Holy Quran as an opening for the session and then Ali Erbas summoned for Friday
prayer. While giving address the cleric was holding the sword in his right hand to show off the
power and courage of Osmania Khilafat in modern Day Turkey. It seems to be a silent message
to many people. Apart from religious affiliation, Erdogan’s inclination and nostalgia for the
Ottoman Empire tells another side of the story. While on the flip side it was performed when it
was 97th anniversary of the treaty of Lausanne. It was the treaty between modern-day Turkey and
Greece upon the settlement of borders. This decision is confronted by NATO allies and
resistance from the Christian communities, especially from Greece. While Ankara announced
that the visitors are allowed to visit as other mosques of Turkey.

This Rifts between Athens and Ankara is streaming hard day by day. The recent statement of
President Erdogan “ We see that the targets of those countries who have made so much noise in
recent days are not Hagia Sophia or the eastern Mediterranean, their targets are the presence
itself of the Turkish nation and Muslin in this region” shows the position and power of Turkey.
Moreover, he criticized Greece's hostile statements. On the other side, Greece Prime minister
Mistsotakis said that this is not a power show but the weakness and declared Turkey a trouble
maker. Additionally, he said that “Hagia Sophia is in our hearts it is where our hearts beat.” In
short, Greece and Turkey have many differences between them on different matters of air and
maritime. But the conversion and restoration of Hagia Sophia into mosque fueled the situation
more. So, it is time which will tell the exact scenario until it can be said that Turkey is in a strong
position..
