Factors Affecting in Choosing Strand of…

1.0 Introduction

The K-12 Program implementation started on year 2011. Which is found to be

adequate period for learning under basic education curriculum for learners to

master basic competencies. The program ensures that the graduated earn the

necessary skills in which the legal age for employment to qualify entrance into the

world of work. On the other hand, graduates who opt to go to tertiary education

are deemed better prepared for college study. ( SEAMEO INNOTECH, 2012). In

today’s modern generation, the government rise up the standard of education in

the Philippines and one of its program is the Kinder-Grade 12 Program or the K-

12 Program, the said program enables every student to be globally competitive.

Every student needs awareness in choosing, in order for them to have clever

decision on what path they will be pursuing. The incoming Grade 11 students of

D.Q Liwag National High School must be ready to select and decide for their

future. This will challenge and think them how the process of choosing a strand

will help them to differentiate and start a move through their insights portraying

the journey of Senior High School year. This study could help them in

materializing their skills and knowledge which may let them choose what path

they are going to take.

The incoming completers of batch 2020 maybe quite confused about what

track and which particular strand to take in their Senior High School year. It’s

getting harder for the students who are going to step forward to their senior high

school life, especially to the path that they are going to pursue. Decision making

in teenage years is confusing especially in choosing the course that they are going
to take in college. Students still don’t know what career they should take, that’s

why they have difficulties about the strand that they will take in senior high

because they should be consistent and serious about it, because they are going to

engage with it to the rest of their senior high school life. There are such external

factors and influences that create a conflict to what one’s thoughts about his/her

chosen strand and those influences are indeed can make a huge effect on a student

that may bring them more in confusion. And it will create changes in the student’s

real plan.

In this study, researchers aim to the factors affecting the students in choosing

their preferred strand. Their decision making through what way they want would

be responsible for what strand they will strive on. It is a matter of making a right

choice. It is very important for the students of what will they choose, because all

students want a good life in the near future. Therefore allowing students

specifically Grade 10 students of D.Q Liwag National High School in choosing

their filed of strands will be easily for them to choose through their own decision

rather than conditions. The researchers aims to identify how the students choose

their strands for Senior High School, identify how does the students choose their

strands for Senior High School and to attain knowledge and understanding for

them to have extra or an enough information about what they want and also

researchers goal is to determine if the students will be going satisfied with their

chosen strand.

With the researchers intention to help the Grade 10 students at D.Q Liwag

National High School they decided to make a research paper to determine the
underlying factors affecting in choosing strand of incoming Grade 11 students at

D.Q Liwag National High School. This study could contribute to the grade 10

students to help them make their decision in choosing what strand they will be

going to take. This study will be beneficial to them to expand their awareness and

knowledge on how to choose a best strand for their own.
